Supporting dual 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Dell PowerEdge XE2420 server is specially designed for edge applications with a 2U chassis and short depth. The front of the system can be outfitted with a few different storage configurations including 2x 2.5” SATA, NVMe drives, 4x SAS, SATA, NVMe or 6x E3.S drives.
16x DIMM slots on the system board support Registered or Load-Reduced DDR4 DIMMs, with 12x balanced DIMM slots that leverage the 12-channel memory architecture provided by the CPU. The storage configuration on the Dell PowerEdge XE2420 using EDSFF drives provides the greatest capacity with up to 92.16TB. Additionally, to preserve up-front storage, a Boot Optimized Storage Subsystem or BOSS can be used to support the OS in a mirror RAID with dual M.2 drives installed. For SAS storage devices, or to have more control of your storage, it will require a PERC or PowerEdge RAID Controller. Using the PCIe slots on this system, up to 20x M.2 drives can be installed in each of 2x Front End 1 (FE1) cards. Those 2x front PCIe slots can also be outfitted with 2x 300W passive double-wide cards including the NVIDIA V1000 or NVIDIA RTX 6000. Another option is up to 4x passive single-width cards with a 75W power draw like the NVIDIA T4.
This system is designed for harsh, edge environments and can be used for streaming analytics, manufacturing logistics, 5G cell processing applications, and more! Two ports on the front of the system provide network communications and can be outfitted with either 1GbE, 10GE SFP+ or 10GE BaseT. For additional network communications, the system also has an OCP mezzanine card slot again, with options for link width and port options. The system also has a dedicated management port for remote access of the system. Powering the unit are N or N+1 2000W AC or depending on configuration and power needs N or N+1 1100W DC power supply units, both with reverse power flow.
Management of the system is through the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller, which can be upgraded to iDRAC9 Datacenter for enhanced capabilities and security. The system is also designed to easily integrate with the Dell EMC Modular Data Center Micro 4-series, which is a pre-integrated data center appliance for no-traditional data center environments like at the edge. It includes all the necessary attributes for edge deployments; a small footprint, per-integrated IT, power, cooling, and remote management, all within a temperature-resistant rugged enclosure.
