Offering a rugged, sled-based configuration, the Dell PowerEdge XR8000 Chassis can be outfitted with up to 4x individual server sleds. Supported sleds include the PowerEdge XR8610t at nearly 1U, and the PowerEdge XR8620t at nearly 2U. Both support a single 4th or 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor and 8x DIMM slots for a maximum capacity of up to 512GB of DDR5 memory.
As a short-depth edge platform, the Dell PowerEdge XR8000 Chassis is designed to address a number of diverse edge workloads including, AI and Machine Learning on a factory floor, plus for a Radio Access Network or RAN at a cell site. Each of the CPUs supported in the server sleds deliver 8-channel memory architecture, and is in charge of 8x DDR5 memory module slots for up to 512GB of Registered DIMMs at full capacity. 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs with optional built-in vRAN boost accelerators can provide core counts of up to 32 physical cores and 64 virtual threads. 5th generation processors with up to 16 cores can be installed. CPU are limited to a Thermal Design Power rating of up to 250W.
Network communications are provided by the supported server sleds with integrated 25GbE SFP 28 LOM connectors. Additional network controllers, storage or GPUs can be installed on the supported PCIe slots, with 1x PCIe Gen 5 slot on the XR8610t and 3x available on the XR8620t sled. The XR8620t sled can be outfitted with up to 3x single-wide NVIDIA L4 GPUs with a 70W power draw. Only the power is provided at the chassis level and includes options of 1800W Titanium, 1400WPlatinum and 1400W DC and other options.
To manage the platform Dell offers the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 9.0 (AKA iDRAC9). Also supported are iDRAC Direct plus RESTful API with Redfish. iDRAC can be accessed through the dedicated RJ45 iDRAC9 Ethernet port on each of the installed server sleds. Another option is Dells OpenManage Enterprise with integrations for a number of third-party integrations including VMware vCenter, Microsoft System Center, Windows Admin Center plus plugins for power management and updates.
