Powered by 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Gigabyte G591-HS0 server supports 3TB of RAM, 5G network infrastructures, and 10x hot-swap drive bays. The Intel Xeon architecture maximizes PCIe I/O connections by using two 2U 20x slot trays for 32x single or 16x double-wide GPU accelerators connected by a large PLX switch array.
The Gigabyte G591-HS0 GPU server is a 5U chassis with the ability to house 40x PCIe x16 full length devices, including 32x slots for GPUs while the others can be used for high-speed I/O. Dual Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs from the 2nd generation support major enhancements like Intel Optane Persistent memory compatibility, deep learning boost, security, and more. It’s ideal for workloads running artificial intelligence, deep learning, and scientific analysis and simulation.
Second generation of Intel Xeon Scalable family processors, known as "Cascade Lake," are fully compatible with the G591-HS0 platform. To support workload optimized applications like enterprise IT database and high-demand HPC workloads, the system can be outfitted with the full family of SKUs from the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, including those with an integrated Intel Omni-Path Fabric connection. All of these processors support Intel Optane Persistent memory based on Intel’s Xpoint technology. The dual-socket platform supports CPUs with a maximum TDP of up to 205W, up to 28 cores, and 56 threads per socket. All CPUs also have Intel virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) enabled to support NVMe SSDs. In addition to the 2nd generation technology, the system also supports 1st gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 32 cores. Memory speed is dependent on the type of processors used in the system. *If only one processor is installed, some PCIe and memory functions might be unavailable.
The server features 6x memory channels with 2x DIMMs per channel for each CPU socket. Each Intel processor supports up to 12x memory module slots for a total of 24x active DIMMs with both processors installed. Featuring a maximum of 64GB of RAM with RDIMM modules, or double the memory capacity using LRDIMMs at 128GB per slot, the server also supports Intel Optane DC Persistent memory (DCPMM). Using 12x DCPMMs each with 256GB of memory can also be installed for a total of 3TB of persistent memory in addition to that provided by the RDIMMs they must be paired with.
The front of the 5U chassis features 4x SFF NVMe drive bays, distinguished by orange tabs, plus 6x SFF SATA/SAS hot-swappable HDD or SSD bays, which have blue tabs. All of these drive bays are tool-less, meaning they have a clipping mechanism that secures the storage drive in place. With hot-swapping, storage drives can be installed or replaced without having to shut down the system. For SATA drives, the integrated Intel chipset supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5. Meanwhile, Intel vROC is offers a hybrid hardware/software RAID solution of 0, 1, 10, and 5 for U.2 drives. In this instance, the vROC module is only compatible with Intel SSDs.
There is a total of 40x low-profile PCIe Gen3 x16 expansion slots on the G591-HS0 server. It supports 32x single-wide or 16x double-wide GPU accelerators, while the remaining 8x PCIe slots are for other add-on cards (AOC). The top tier of GPUs is controlled by CPU1 whereas the bottom tier is controlled by CPU0. Based on the Intel Xeon Scalable processor architecture, this platform uses a large PLX switch array and two 2U 20x slot trays to maximize PCIe I/O connectivity.
To manage the system, both the Smart Crises Management/Protection (SCMP) and Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) can be deployed to keep the server’s health up to par. SCMP is Gigabyte’s patented software that will automatically force the server’s CPU to enter ultra-low frequency mode for minimum power consumption when there is a faulty PSU or error. GSM, Gigabyte’s proprietary multiple server remote management software, can send administrators alerts regarding temperature, voltages, fan speed, and more. Users can download the software at no cost and GSM is compatible with either IPMI or Redfish connection interfaces.
With room for up to 32x GPUs, and optimized for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and 5G network infrastructure, the Gigabyte G591-HS0 server features a 5U form factor. The 40x PCIe 3.0, dual-socket system supports 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores each. A total of 24x DIMM slots are available on the motherboard, but only 12x DCPMMs with up to 256GB of memory can be installed.
