Featuring a single Ampere Altra Max or Altra CPU, the 1U Gigabyte R152-P31 server can apply up to 128 cores of computing power to standard networking applications. It has 10x hybrid hot-swap drive bays up front with 6x SATA and 4x NVMe. It can also support up to 4TB of memory at full capacity.
As a networking appliance, the Gigabyte R152-P31 server is designed for use as a virtual server, hosting an Intranet, a shared Internet connection, file access via VPN, and networked file storage. With ample computing power supplied by the single Ampere Altra Max processor, this system is highly adaptable to support a number of business-critical applications. 10x 2.5" storage bays in front support a combination of SATA and NVMe storage devices, plus optional NVMe M.2 2242/2260/2280/22110 drives. For compute acceleration, the system can also be outfitted with a GPU.
The single CPU socket on the motherboard supports either an Ampere Altra Max or Ampere Altra CPU. Ampere Altra Max is the next generation with up to 128x cores, while Ampere Altra CPUs support up to 80x cores. Both feature 8x memory channel architecture.
With 8-memory channel architecture, this system has 16x memory module slots for a maximum capacity of up to 4TB of memory. Supported DDR4 memory modules include registered DIMMs (RDIMM) and load-reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM) operating at speeds of up to 3200 MT/s.
10x 2.5" storage bays on the front of the Gigabyte R152-P31 server are color-coded with blue bays indicating SATA support and the orange bays NVMe. There are also 2x PCIe 4.0 x4 slots on the system board that can be outfitted with NVMe M.2 2242/2260/2280/22110 drives that can be used in mirror mode to support the operating system.
In addition to the single PCIe 4.0 x16 slot full-height, half-length slot there is also a OCP 2.0 mezzanine card slot that is occupied by a CSTO180 SATA HBA. The single half-length PCIe slot will support an Nvidia Tesla T4 GPU, which is ideal for distributed environments. It can also be used to support network controller cards offering faster connection speeds than the built-in 1Gb/s LAN ports via Intel I350-AM2 in back. A dedicated RJ45 port provides access to the integrated ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller (BMC)
Management is provided by Gigabytes proprietary, free-of-charge, applications. The Gigabyte Management Console is provided for use with a single server and has an easy-to-use browser-based user interface. It features and automatic recording function, integrates with 3rd-party applications, and has a SAS/RAID controller monitoring function as well. Gigabyte Server Management or GSM is designed for supporting multiple servers and is compatible with Redfish or IPMI. Servers using GSM are loaded with the GSM Agent, which leverages the Gigabyte Management Console.
Outfitted with a single Ampere Altra or Altra Max CPU, the Gigabyte R152-P31 server can provide the compute, memory and storage potential of a comparable dual-socket system. It features 10x 2.5" drive bays which support 6x SATA and 4x NVMe drives up front and up to 4TB of memory to support a number of common networking applications.
