Outfitted with a single Ampere Altra Max or Ampere Altra CPU, the Gigabyte R152-P32 server can easily perform the work of a dual-socket platform. Ampere Altra Max CPUs provide up to 128 cores to address a myriad of network computing tasks. This system features 10x hybrid drive bays and can support up to 4TB of memory.
Designed for use as a file storage server, shared VPN connection, hosting an Intranet, or for use as a virtualization server, the Gigabyte R152-P32 server has 10x SATA/NVMe drives bays. Ampere’s Altra Max processors provide the compute with 96 to 128 cores and can easily support multi-core applications like virtualization. It can also support a large memory footprint and supports PCIe 4.0 expansion slots for double the bandwidth compared to PCIe 3.0. Dual, redundant 1100W PLUS Platinum power supply units PSUs power the system.
Ampere Altra Max is the second generation and supports 96 to 128 cores. Ampere Altra CPU is an earlier generation and supports 32 to 80 cores. Both deliver PCIe 4.0, a Thermal Design Power rating of up to 250W, and 8-memory channel architecture for up to 4TB of memory per socket.
DDR4 memory modules supported on this system support speeds of up to 3200MT/s, with either one or two memory modules installed per memory channel. The single CPU supports 16x memory module slots and can be configured using registered DIMMs (RDIMM) or Load-Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM). For maximum capacity, 256GB memory modules, either RDIMMs or LRDIMMs are installed in all memory module slots for up to 4TB of memory total.
With 10x hybrid drive bays up front, the Gigabyte R152-P32 Server can support SATA and NVME drive types. The drive bays are color coded with two on the left featuring blue drive tray release tabs indicating SATA support, and the other 8x bays featuring orange tabs that can be outfitted with NVMe hot swappable drives. SAS drives are not supported. Two x4 PCIe 4.0 slots on the system board support two NVMe M.2 drives with 2260, 2280, and 22110 form factors.
The single riser CRS101D on the system provides 1 x PCIe x16 slot (Gen4 x16), Full height half-length, occupied by CNV3124 and 4 x NVMe ports. There is an OCP 2.0 mezzanine card slot that is occupied by a SATA HBA controller by the CSTO180 (9ASM1164) SATA HBA..
Like Gigabyte’s other server platforms, this system can be managed through Gigabyte’s Management Console, which comes pre-loaded on the system and is suitable for a single server or small server cluster. For more robust features, Gigabyte’s Server Manager, or GSM, can be used for remote or at chassis management of the system through the dedicated RJ45 management LAN port via Intel I350-AM2. The mLAN port provides access to the ASPEED AST 2500 baseboard management controller (BMC). Both can be used with a standard browser interface.
Offering an attractive performance to cost ratio, the Gigabyte R152-P32 Server can support a number of business-critical networking functions without breaking the bank. Outfitted with Ampere Altra Max CPUs, this system can provide up to 128 cores and 4TB of memory. It’s a flexible platform that also offers substantial storage up front with 10x storage bays supported on the 1U chassis.
