The Gigabyte R152-Z30 Server is a 1U server with a single CPU socket compatible with 7002 or 7003 Series AMD EPYC processors. A total of 16x DIMM slots are available on the system board with support for DDR4 memory modules. 4x 3.5-inch hot-swappable HDD/SSD drive bays are accessible from the front of the system. The rear of the system grants access to a single PCIe Gen4 x16 slot for expansion.
Designed for networking applications, the Gigabyte R152-Z30 Server houses a single socket, compatible with 2nd or 3rd Generation AMD EPYC Series processors. 16x DIMM slots can support up to 4TB of memory at capacity. On the front of the system there are 4x 3.5-inch SATA hot-swappable HDD/SSD drive bays which are also compatible with 2.5-inch drives. Dual 1GbE LAN ports via Intel I350-AM2 are accessible from the rear of the system along with a single 10/100/1000 Management LAN port. A Gen4 PCIe x16 slot is available on the rear of the server, which is powered by dual redundant 650W PLUS Platinum PSUs. This chassis originally supported 1st and 2nd generation AMD EPYC series processors with rev.100. Rev.A00 includes a firmware update enabling compatibility with 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors.
Rev.A00
A single AMD EPYC Rome (7002) or Milan (7003) Processor can be installed on the Gigabyte R152-Z30. Due to the hardware configuration of this system, the configurable Thermal Design Point (cTDP) is limited to 240W with conditional support for CPUs up to 280W. This thermal range includes many of the current portfolio of AMD EPYC 2nd or 3rd Generation Processors. SKUs supported on this system can include a maximum of 64x physical cores and 128x virtual threads per processor.
Rev.100
Rev.100 was the first release of the system featuring support for 1st or 2nd Generation AMD EPYC Series Processors with a TDP of 225W and a cTDP of up to 240W. The first-generation processors have a maximum physical core count of 32x cores with 64x virtual threads. 2nd generation CPUs offer increased performance and increased core count of up to 64 physical cores per CPU.
The single CPU socket on this system supports up to 16x DIMM slots using AMDs 8-channel memory architecture. Only DDR4 memory modules are supported on this system with memory speeds of 3200MHz or 2933MHz. Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) or Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM) are compatible with this system, with the maximum supported module being 128GB for both. 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM modules can also be installed with a maximum capacity of 256GB per module. It is important to note that the 3DS modules are also supported on systems populated with 3rd Generation AMD EPYC Series Processors.
Storage solutions on this system include 4x 3.5-inch SATA hot-swappable HDD/SSD drive bays. 2.5-inch HDD/SSD drives can also be installed in the 3.5-inch drive trays of the Gigabyte R152-Z30 Server. A SAS card is required for SAS device support. Dual M.2 slots are available on the system board which support 2243/2260/2280 form factor M.2 drives.
A single full-height, half-length PCIe Gen4 x16 slot is accessible from the rear of the Gigabyte R152-Z30. Dual M.2 slots with a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface can be found on the system board, which support 2242, 2260, or 2280 form factor cards. An OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot with PCIe Gen3 x16 bandwidth (Type 1, P1, P2, P3, P4) and can provide options connectivity with the rest of your IT infrastructure with an installed OCP 2.0 card.
Gigabyte’s management features are centralized in the Gigabyte Management Console (AMI MegaRAC SP-X) web interface which grants access to sensors, event logs, remote access, and other important features. The integrated Aspeed AST2500 management controller provides a remote web-based graphical interface for managing the system remotely. Also provided free of charge is Gigabyte’s Server Management, which provides additional tools for managing multiple servers or large server clusters.
With only a single processor, this system is an excellent addition for a small to medium-sized business, and offers a rapid return on investment. The Gigabyte R152-Z30 is a 1U server designed for networking applications like use a VPN server, a shared Internet connection, and a general networked file server. It is compatible with AMD’s newest 3rd Generation EPYC Series processors as well as 1st and 2nd generation AMD EPYC CPUs. There are a total of 16x DIMM slots on the system board and 4x 3.5-inch hot-swappable HDD/SSD drive bays. System expansion is achieved through a PCIe Gen4 x16 slots on the rear of the system.
