Outfitted with a single 3rd generation AMD EPYC processor, the Gigabyte R162-ZA2 server delivers uncompromising performance for standard networking applications. It supports 12x 2.5-inch NVMe Gen4 storage bays up front by default, plus up to 4TB of memory at up tp 3200MHz. 2x 1GbE ports via Intel I350-AM2 in back provide basic networking functions, which can be upgraded with expansion cards.
Delivering up to 64x cores of processing power with just a single AMD EPYC 7003-series processor, the Gigabyte R162-ZA2 server excels at networking applications including use as a general file server, a shared Internet connection, use a virtualization server, and as a shared VPN connection. With support for 12x NVMe Gen4 storage devices up front, this platform also offers resiliency and speed for quick access to networked data. It also provides substantial compute potential with support for up to 4TB of memory. With a configurable thermal design point (cTDP) listed at 240W, the system is powered by dual redundant 800W 80 PLUS Platinum PSUs. To achieve support for a cTDP of 280W requires the installation of optional 1300W PSUs.
This system can provide 8x to 64x cores of processing power with just a single 3rd generation AMD EPYC series processor. It’s also compatible with the previous generation 7002-series AMD EPYC processors, which also provide the same number of cores just slightly less computation performance. Both generations provide 8-channel memory architecture and PCIe 4.0 for improved bandwidth for I/O and NVMe storage devices.
With 8-channel memory support provided by the 3rd Gen AMD EPYC CPU, each memory channel supports 2x memory modules for 16x slots total. Memory supported on this platform includes Registered (RDIMM), Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) and 3DS versions of RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules. At full capacity with all 16x memory module slots loaded with 256GB 3DS RDIMMs or LRDIMMs, this system will support up to 4TB of memory. Using standard RDIMMs or LRDIMMs will provide half that value at 2TB using 128GB modules in all slots. Memory speeds of 2933MHz and 3200MHz are supported.
12x 2.5-inch storage bays lining the front of the Gigabyte R162-ZA2 Server are by default designed to support U.2 hot-swap NVMe SSDs Gen4. Neither SAS or SATA drives are supported by the installed backplane which features PCIe 4.0 x4 connectors, each of which can support 2x NVMe drive bays.
2x risers at the back of the chassis support 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 expansion slots to support additional network controllers. An internal PCIe 4.0 x16 slot is outfitted with an HBA 4-port U.2 NVMe card for support of the front NVMe drive bays. There are also two mezzanine slots for support of optional OCP networking cards. One is a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot for an OCP 3.0 mezzanine card offering the latest technology. The other is a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot for an OCP 2.0 mezzanine card. Both offer 2-4 network ports with a choice of connectors and link speeds.
Remote management of the system is achieved through the dedicated RJ45 management port on the back of the system. The management port access the integrated ASPEED AST 2500 baseboard management controller module on the system board. There are two software-based management options provided free of charge. The Gigabyte Management Console is preloaded on the system and makes use of the AMI MegaRAC SP-X web interface for presentation of server assets and status using a standard browser. Gigabyte’s Server Manager (GSM) leverages the Management Console to manage multiple servers or large clusters of servers. The GSM Agent must be loaded on each platform to be managed by the GSM.
Offering 12x NVMe storage bays, the Gigabyte R162-ZA2 Server offers fast reliable storage for common networking applications. The 3rd generation AMD EPYC 7003 series processor delivers 8x to 64x cores for up to 4TB of memory. With only a single processor, this system will provide businesses with a rapid return on investment.
