Performance

The 1U, 1S Gigabyte R163-S32 is an Intel-based system supporting a single 4th or 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor with up to 64 cores and 128 threads, PCIe 5.0 lanes, and PMem. The Platinum, Gold, and Silver processors with a TDP of up to 350W are included in the compatible processor lineup. Using the Intel C741 chipset, the CPU enables 16x DIMM slots with a maximum capacity of up to 4TB supported by 8x memory channels. Dual 1300W 80 PLUS Platinum redundant PSUs power the system.

Memory

The R163-S32 server has 16x DDR5 memory module slots on the motherboard. The system can accommodate up to 4TB of memory using 256GB modules in all 16x slots when equipped with 3DS RDIMMs. Half of the capacity is available when standard 128GB RDIMMs are loaded in each slot. With two DIMMs per channel, memory speeds of up to 4400MHz are attained, while one DIMM per channel can reach rates of 4800MHz. Additionally, Intel Optane Persistent Memory 300 series modules are supported by the system.

Storage

On the front panel of the server there are 12x 2.5” hot-swappable drive bays with hybrid configurations. 8x of these drive bays are compatible with SATA/SAS formats, while the remaining 4x drive bays support Gen4 NVMe drives. A SAS card is required for SAS devices support. In addition, there is an internal M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 slot with support for 2280 or 22110 form factor cards that can be used for additional storage or to boot the OS.

Expansion

On the back of the chassis there is a single 1Gb/s LAN connector supported by the Intel I210-AT controller and a dedicated management port supported by the Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller (BMC). The server offers two PCIe Gen5 x16 expansion slots with a 128GB/s bandwidth, plus a single M.2 with PCIe Gen3 x4 interface. This system also has 2x OCP 3.0 Gen5 x16 mezzanine slots offering options for network connectivity.
