Just like the rest of the R182 family, the Gigabyte R182-N20 is a 1U chassis featuring dual processors. In this case, the system has dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors for improved performance over the previous generation plus support for PCIe 4.0 offering greater throughput for I/O and storage. 10x storage bays line the front of the system offering support for a combination drive types.
Designed for general networking applications, the Gigabyte R182-N20 rack server can be used as a virtual server, for general file storage, a shared Internet connection, and for file access via VPN. With 10x drive bays up front, 8x are specified for SAS or SATA, while 2x on the far-right support SAS, SATA or NVMe 4.0 drive formats.
Outfitted with dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors this system can bring up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual to take on a variety of tasks. Platinum processors will provide up to 40 cores, while Gold will provide up to 32 cores, and Silver up to 20. CPU thermal design point (TDP) is limited to 270W per CPU. Each processor also supports up to 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes for improved I/O and storage performance, not to mention, support for the next generation of hardware. Each processor also supports 8x memory channels for up to 1.6x higher memory bandwidth.
With 8x memory channels, and 32 DDR4 DIMM slots divided between the processors, each processor is allocated 16x memory module slots. Registered (RDIMM) or load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules can be installed, offering up to 4TB of memory with all slots loaded with 128GB memory modules. For even higher density, 3DS RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules can be installed offering double the memory capacity to 8TB with all module slots loaded with 256GB memory modules.
10x storage bays lining the front of the R182-N20 server are color coded making it easy to service if alternate storage devices will be installed. 8x storage bays on the left with blue release tabs can be outfitted with SAS or SATA hot-plug storage devices. The storage bays on the right with green release tabs are hybrid storage bays that will support either SAS, SATA or NVMe 4.0 U.2 storage devices. SAS storage devices will require a SAS controller for support, and offer more RAID options than the internal storage controller which will provide RAID of 0, 1, 5, or 10.
2x risers at the back of the chassis provide 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 expansion slots to host high-speed I/O options, and can also be used for a SAS RAID controller or for support of additional high-speed storage with a PCIe based storage card. There are also 2x OCP card slots with one supporting an OCP 2.0 x8 PCIe 3.0 mezzanine slot and the other an OCP 3.0 x16 mezzanine slot with PCIe 4.0 connectivity for next generation cards and easy upgrade.
Gigabyte provides 2x management options, both free of charge. The Gigabyte Management Console offers management and maintenance for a single server or small cluster of servers and comes pre-loaded and is accessed through an HTML 5.0 graphical interface. Additionally, the Gigabyte Server Management software suite provides for large clusters of servers simultaneously and is compatible with integrated platform management interface 2.0 and Redfish API protocols for integration with other third-party hardware.
Offering superlative support for standard networking functions, the Gigabyte R182-N20 server features a small 1U profile that can easily integrate with your existing infrastructure. With support from 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, this system will also support up to 80 physical cores plus PCIe 4.0 for vastly improved throughput. Memory density has also been impacted with 8-channel memory compared to only 6x channels in the previous generation.
