With 8x other 1U servers in this family, the Gigabyte R182-Z90 server features 4x 3.5-inch hot-swap SATA drive bays in front and dual AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 processors inside. This server is designed to support standard business networking applications and can bring to bear up to 8TB of DDR4 ECC memory.
As a networking appliance, the Gigabyte R182-Z90 server can be used for a number of business-critical applications like file storage, hosting an Intranet, for file access via VPN, a shared Internet connection, and for use as a virtual server. Outfitted with one or two AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 CPUs and up to 8TB of memory, this platform can excel in augmenting your existing network infrastructure. At only 1U in height, chances are you already have room. Power is provided by dual redundant 1200W PSUs.
The software update to this system, rev. A00, has enabled support for AMD EPYC 7003 series processors. Prior to the 7003 series this system only supported 7002 series CPUs. At this point, both processors are supported with the 7003-series processors providing a significant boost in performance over the 7002 series. However, it should be noted that both provide PCIe 4.0 capabilities and 8x memory channels. Both also support up to 64 physical cores and 128 virtual threads per processor. The 7003 series processors offer extended L3 cache and are 25% faster than the previous generation.
Registered (RDIMM) and load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules are supported on this chassis. 3DS RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules offer the highest capacity supported at 256GB. There are 16 DDR4 DIMM slots allocated to each CPU for 32x memory module slots total. With all 32x DIMM slots loaded with 256GB memory modules, the system will support a little over 8TB of memory.
The 4x 3.5-inch drive bays on the front of the R182-Z90 server can also be outfitted with 2.5-inch drives, either HDD or SSD. All drive bays support SATA drive types natively, but SAS drives are also supported with a SAS RAID cord installed. SATA drives will provide data transfer speeds of up to 6Gb/s while SAS drives are twice as fast at up to 12Gb/s. A slimline optical disk drive is optional and can be installed on the front of the system above the drive bays. In addition, this system also features a single NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 slot for additional superfast storage or to support the OS.
Two risers at the back of the chassis each support a single full-height, half length (FHHL) PCIe 4.0 x16 expansion slot. There are also 2x OCP mezzanine slots at the back of the chassis, with one supporting an OCP 3.0 x16 card slot and the other and OCP 2.0 x8 card slot.
Alongside the dual Gb/s LAN ports is a dedicated management port to access the Aspeed AST2500 management module for at chassis and remote management of the system. Gigabyte also provides two management software suites free-of-charge. Gigabyte Management Console is perfect for managing a single server or a small cluster and uses a standard browser with a user-friendly interface. On the other hand, Gigabyte Server Management is for managing multiple or clusters of servers and has a more robust set of features for managing multiple systems.
In addition to the free-of-cost management software suites, the Gigabyte R182-Z90 server also provides a number of other cost-saving features ensuring a rapid ROI. Outfitted with dual AMD EPYC processors and up to 8TB of memory, this server offers a high-performance option to support standard and mission critical networking applications.
