The Gigabyte R182-Z91 server is part of Gigabyte’s rack server lineup and is designed to address standard networking business applications. It offers dual AMD EPYC 7002/7003 series processors with support for up to 8TB of memory in a 1U form factor. 10x drive bays can be outfitted with a combination of SAS, SATA and NVMe drive types.
As a networking platform the Gigabyte R182-Z91 server can be used as file access via VPN, general file storage, a shared Internet connection and for use as a virtual server. Dual AMD EPYC series processors supported in this system can provide up to 64 cores each for up to 128 cores of processing power with both PSUs installed. This platform also features 10x 2.5-inch hybrid drive bays and dense memory support.
One or two 7002 or 7003 series AMD EPYC processors can be installed on this platform providing up to 64 physical cores and 128 virtual threads. EPYC processors also support PCIe 4.0 for 2x the throughput compared to PCIe 3.0 throughput speeds. 8x memory channels per CPU also enable up to 2x memory modules per channel while still providing superior memory speed. Processors are limited to a configurable thermal design point (TDP) of up to 240W but if an M.2 drive is installed the CPU TDP is limited to 225W.
With 8x memory channels, and 16 memory module slots per processor, each memory channel will support 2x memory modules. Registered (RDIMM) or load reduced memory modules are supported with 3DS versions providing the highest capacity. With all memory channels loaded to capacity, the system can host up to 8TB of memory at speeds ranging from 3200MHz to 2933MHz depending on the type of module used and the configuration.
10x 2.5-inch bays lining the front of the chassis are color coded with 8x drive bays featuring blue release tabs and the other 2x with orange tabs. The blue trays can accommodate SATA natively or SAS drive formats with a SAS card installed. The trays with blue tabs are compatible with NVMe hot-swappable storage devices offering more speed and resiliency. A single M.2 x4 PCIe 3.0 slot is available on the system board to support additional high-speed storage or to support the OS.
2x risers at the back of the Gigabyte R182-Z91 server motherboard each support a single PCIe 4.0 x16 full-height, half-length (FHHL) slot to support additional I/O or super-fast PCIe NVMe storage devices. There are also 2x OCP mezzanine card slots at the back of the motherboard. One supports an OCP 3.0 card with a x16 PCIe 4.0 slot, and the other supports an OCP 2.0 x8 PCIe 3.0 slot. Each offers an NCSI function. There are two integrated GbE LAN ports on the back of the system right next to a dedicated management port.
The management port on the back of the system provides access to the Aspeed AST 2500 baseboard management controller (BMC) for remote and at chassis management of the system. There are also two management software suites including the Gigabyte Management Console and the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM). One delivers management for a single server or a small cluster of servers, while the other is for multi-server networks and large clusters.
Featuring free-of-charge management software without the usual associated licensing costs, the Gigabyte R182-Z91 server delivers impressive performance and a rapid return on investment. Outfitted with dual AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 processors, up to 8TB of memory, and hybrid storage up front, it’s designed to support a number of standard business networking applications.
