The Gigabyte R282-2O0 is a dual-processor, 2U server featuring 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. With both CPUs, the motherboard holds 32x active DIMM slots with support for Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 series (DCPMM) modules, which offer more memory capacity than standard DIMMs. Featuring 24x drive bays up front, this chassis also supports two extra drive bays on the rear that can be used to boot the operating system.
Built around the Intel Xeon Scalable Gen3 architecture, the Gigabyte R282-2O0 server supports PCIe 4.0, 8-channel memory, and DCPMMs at memory speeds of up to 3200MHz. With up to 40 cores per socket, this platform can support a variety of specialized networking applications. This system is ideal for storing large amounts of data, for use as a virtual sever, or to host an Intranet.
The R282-2O0 rack server is outfitted with dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with top-of-the-line Platinum processors providing up to 40 cores and 80 virtual threads. Each CPU offers 8-channel memory to support up to 32x DIMMs with up to 8TB of memory, depending on the which memory modules are installed. These “Ice Lake” CPUs deliver Intel’s 10nm architecture to support the latest features and offer a TDP of up to 270W. 3rd gen Scalable Processors also offer an additional Ultra-path Interconnect (UPI) lane providing up to 11.2GT/s for a low latency interconnect between CPUs.
The MR92-FS1 motherboard supports 16x memory module slots per processor with 8x channel technology, for a total of 32x DIMM slots between two CPUs. Although the system supports RDIMM, LRDIMM, 3DS RDIMM, and 3DS LRIMM memory modules, it also supports a maximum of 12x 256GB data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMMs). The Intel persistent memory 200 series (PMem) can be used two ways. Memory mode is used to expand memory capacity and app direct mode enables the modules to act as fast flash storage. Depending on the type of DIMMs installed, memory speeds of up to 3200MHz can be reached and the BIOS will automatically detect the memory's specifications and size after it is installed.
This system supports 24x 2.5” hot-swappable drive bays on the front panel and twin 2.5” hot-swappable drive bays on the rear of the chassis, but only SAS/SATA storage mediums are supported in the rear bays. Both HDD and SSD bays can be installed. The rear drives are ideal for running an easily accessible operating system, without having to use any of the storage bays up front. This is useful as there’s no M.2 storage onboard.
The R282-2O0 server has 3x risers accessible through the rear of the chassis, that support up to 8x PCIe 4.0 slots with varying lengths. The system also delivers a PCIe Gen3 interface for an OCP 2.0 mezzanine card slot and a PCIe 4.0 interface for an OCP 3.0 mezzanine card slot.
This platform, like other Gigabyte servers, utilizes the Aspeed AST2600 management controller to support MegaRAC SP-X baseboard management controller (BMC) for in-band and out-of-band management. The program, also known as the Gigabyte Management Console, allows users to handle basic tasks like remotely controlling the power, flashing the BIOS, and launching a KVM for installing software on the system. Gigabyte Server management (GSM) is for multiple server deployments or for large server clusters and works with the Gigabyte Management Console on each machine for managing several servers simultaneously. The server can also be locally accessed with a single management LAN port on the back of the chassis.
Configured with dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Gigabyte R282-2O0 server opens the doors for any type of application in various industries. The Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 series (PMem) modules set this system apart from the AMD-based servers, providing flexible configurations for memory and storage. Intel’s advanced 3rd gen CPUs make it easy to deploy the latest technology like PCIe Gen4, DCPMMs, and an 8-channel memory.
