The Gigabyte R282-NO0 Server is a 2U server powered by dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. With the support of Intel CPUs, Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory modules (DCPMM) can be installed together with DDR4 DIMMs to achieve higher memory capacities. Each processor provides eight memory channels to support up to 32x DIMM slots with memory speeds up to 3200MHz.
Powered by Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, the Gigabyte R282-NO0 Server features up to 26x 2.5” drive bays with SAS, SATA, and NVMe compatibility, with front and rear access. The 2U chassis houses 3x riser cards with up to 5x PCIe slots and 2x more for mezzanine slots, plus several management programs to keep the system running and up to date. This platform can be used as a standard networking appliance for file storage, hosting an Intranet, for a shared Internet connection, or a highly virtualized server.
The dual LGA4189 CPU sockets on the Gigabyte R282-NO0 server hold third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 40 cores and 80 threads per CPU. Each CPU can operate with a TDP of up to 270W and features an additional UPI (Ultra-Path Interconnect) providing up to 11.2GT/s of low latency bandwidth between CPUs. Furthermore, each 10nm CPU has 8x memory channels, up from 6x channels in the previous generation of Intel’s previous SP generations. The increased core counts allow for a significant increase in memory, I/O bandwidth, and PCIe availability.
The MR92-FS1 motherboard on the system delivers up to 32x memory module slots with memory speeds of up to 3200MHz depending on your choice of processor and memory configuration. With the 8-memory channel technology, each processor supports up to 16x DIMMs, with 2x DIMMs per channel. Both DDR4 memory modules and Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory modules can be installed to unleash the full potential of the 3rd Gen Intel Xeon CPUs in the R282-NO0 server. RDIMM modules up to 128GB, LRDIMMs up to 128GB, and 3DS RDIMMs and LRDIMMs up to 256GB are supported. A maximum of 12x 256GB DCPMMs can also be installed but must be paired with standard DRM modules.
Across the front of the server are 24x drive bays that support 2.5-inch hot-swappable SSD NVMe storage devices. The rear of the server has 2x more 2.5-inch drive bays for SATA/SAS that can be used to boot the system. The NVMe storage bays are wired for PCIe Gen4 connectivity, ensuring the limited PCIe lanes are available for other uses. However, to maximized NVMe storage performance the GRAID SupremeRAID PCIe card offers world-class data protection and performance for NVMeoF (NVMe over Fabric) to maximize NVMe storage performance, which was traditionally a bottleneck to throughput. GRAID offers two versions one for PCIe Gen 3.0, the SupremeRAID SR1000, and one for PCIe Gen 4.0, the SupremeRAID 1010. All 26x drive bays are hot-swappable and don’t require any tools to remove them.
Three riser cards can be installed on the R282-NO0 rack server with up to 5x PCIe slots. The slots can be configured to support full-height, half-length slots and low-profile, half-length slots. Similarly, there is space available for an OCP 3.0 mezzanine slot occupied by CNV9134 offering various connection speeds and port configurations.
A variety of programs can be used to manage and control the server, both at-chassis and remotely. Gigabyte’s Smart Crises Management and Protection (SCMP) can be deployed in systems with non-fully redundant power supplies. In the event of a malfunctioning PSU or an overheated system, SCMP forces the CPU into an ultra-low power mode, which minimizes the power load, preventing the system from shutting down unexpectedly, while preventing component damage or data loss. Similarly, the Gigabyte Smart Ride Through (SmaRT) function prevents server downtime and data loss due to a loss of AC power. When this happens, the system will throttle back to maintain availability while minimizing power consumption. Capacitors in the power supply can provide power for 10 to 20 minutes, giving administrators ample time to switch to a backup power source and keep running. The Gigabyte Management Console, which is pre-installed on each server can perform real-time health monitoring and management through the browser-based user interface. Finally, the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) can manage clusters of servers over the internet and complies with IPMI and Redfish standards through an iOS or Android application.
Supporting up to 26x 2.5” hot-swappable drive bays and 32x DIMMs with DCPMM compatibility, the Gigabyte R282-NO0 Server is capable of handling the newest technology to support the most complex workloads. Featuring dual third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the 2U system can be configured with NVMe drive bays, up to 5x PCIe slots depending on your choice of risers, and up to 80 cores between both CPUs.
