The Gigabyte R282-Z90 server is a 2U dual AMD EPYC system. It uses the 3rd generation AMD EPYC 7003 series processors, including those with AMD 3D V-Cache technology, both of which support PCIe Gen4 components. It offers access to 8x PCIe expansion slots via three risers for better networking capabilities, plus up to 3x GPUs can be installed. 12x 3.5” drive bays along the front can be configured with SAS or SATA drives.
Outfitted with AMD EPYC 7003 series CPUs, the Gigabyte R282-Z90 server is ideal for storing large amounts of data, use as a virtual server, or to host an Intranet. With up to 64 cores per processor and 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0 technology, the CPUs support 256GB per memory module slot for a total capacity of up to 8TB of memory.
This platform is powered by dual AMD EPYC 7003 series processors, including AMD EPYC processors with 3D V-Cache technology, codenamed “Milan X”. These 3rd gen CPUs support up to 64 physical cores and up to 128 virtual threads each and are based on AMD’s Zen3 architecture. and 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes with a 280W TDP. The newest addition to the 3rd Gen AMD EPYC family with 3D v-Cache Technology features 768MB of L3 cache, which is nearly 3x times as much cache as the standard Milan CPUs. Milan X offer drop-in platform compatibility and modern security features providing better performance for targeted workloads like Electronic Design Automation, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Finite Element Analysis software and solutions. Up to 8x DDR4 memory channels per CPU offer 32x DIMM slots with a maximum of 8TB of memory. While the motherboard supports the newer processors, administrators can also mount regular 3rd Gen AMD EPYC or 2nd Gen AMD EPYC CPUs but will display a significant decrease in performance.
Since the 3rd Gen CPUs have more memory channels that support higher memory densities, this significantly increases the maximum memory that can be installed on the R282-Z90. With 8x memory channels per processor, and 32 memory module slots, each processor supports 16 memory module slots. RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules are supported with both providing up to 4TB, using 128GB module in each slot. On the other hand, 3DS RDIMMs or 3DS LRDIMMs support up to 8TB of memory, using 256GB modules in each slot. Depending on the type of memory modules installed, speeds can reach up to 3200MHz.

This server solution can be configured with both LFF and SFF drives. Twelve of the 14x drive bays on this system are found on the front of the chassis and are compatible with SATA/SAS drive formats. The 3.5-inch bays can also be outfitted with 2.5-inch drives. An optional 2x 2.5-inch drive cage on the rear of the platform supports SATA/SAS interfaces. Both the front and rear drive bays feature hot-swappable HDD/SSD bays. A SAS card is required for SAS devices support. This machine also comes with a single M.2 slot on the motherboard to support the OS.
There are 3x PCIe risers with up to 8x PCIe Gen4 expansion slots depending on your choice of riser. Two of the risers come with a trio of PCIe slots with x8 and x16 support. The system also supports up to 3x GPUs, an OCP 3.0 Gen4 x16 slot, and an OCP 2.0 Gen3 x8 slot.
To manage the system, the integrated AST2500 IPMI controller on the server provides a browser-based web interface providing critical component readings to proactively manage the system. Multiple Gigabyte servers, on the other hand, can be managed and monitored using the free Gigabyte Management Console (AMI MegaRAC SP-X), which is also accessible via a web console. Administrators can use this program to view event logs, remote power controls, and firmware updates.
In terms of modern components for the best performance, the Gigabyte R282-Z90 has it all to take on any workload in countless types of industries. Featuring AMD EPYC 7003 series processors and those feature AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology, the server can apply up to 8TB of memory. In addition, it offers ample storage with 12x drive bays on the front and 2x optional drive bays on the rear of the chassis supporting SATA or SAS drives. This server can also be configured with up to 3x GPUs, utilizing some of the 8x PCIe Gen4 slots—all in a 2U form factor.
