Designed to meet the huge demand in big data analytics, high-performance computing, and cloud computing, the Gigabyte R282-Z94 offers next-generation technology. It supports 2x AMD EPYC 7003 series processors and AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology featuring 8-channel DDR4 memory lanes with speeds of up to 3200MHz. The platform also carries 24x Gen4 U.2 NVMe drives on the front of the server and the 2x SATA/SAS drive bays on the rear, plus M.2 drive capacity.
The all-NVMe Gigabyte R282-Z94 delivers outstanding performance and data processing speeds while supporting large workloads. Featuring dual 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors with up to 64 cores each, it can leverage 32x memory module slots with 8x memory channels per CPU. The motherboard within the 2U platform also offers two 8-pin GPU power connectors supporting advanced computational accelerators.
The R282-Z94 is powered by dual AMD EPYC 7003 processors plus those with AMD 3D V-Cache technology for substantially more L3 cache at up to 768MB. Built on a modern 7nm process architecture with a TDP of up to 280W, these CPUs deliver breakthrough performance with up to 64 cores and 128 threads each through AMD’s Zen 3 architecture. The processors support up to 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes for greater I/O and NVME storage support. Since the motherboard offers compatibility with the prior generations, administrators can also install AMD EPYC 7002 series processors. * If only 1 CPU is installed, some PCIe or memory functions might be unavailable.
As previously mentioned, each AMD processor features 8-channel DDR4 memory supporting RDIMM, LRDIMM, 3DS RDIMM, and 3DS LRIMM memory modules with a speeds of up to 3200MHz. When all 32x DIMM slots are populated with 256GB 3DS RDIMM or 3DS LRIMM modules, up to 8TB of memory can be deployed at capacity. On the other hand, only 4TB of memory are supported when all slots are filled with 128GB modules using standard RDIMM and LRDIMM modules.
There are 24x Gen4 U.2 NVMe drives lining the front panel, while the rear of the chassis supports 2x more bays for SATA/SAS storage. The NVMe drives plug into NVMe host bus adapter (HBA) cards mounted in the PCIe risers. Both front and back drive bays support 2.5-inch HDD or SSD, hot-swappable drives. The MZ92-FS1 motherboard also supports an M.2 PCIe Gen4 x4 slot, which can accommodate 2242, 2260, 2280, or 22110 cards. *CPU TDP is limited to 225W if using M.2 device.
There is a single PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 FHHL card slot that can be accessed through the back of the chassis via a riser card. most other expansion slots are reserved for NVMe U.2 drive connectors. In addition, the motherboard offers an OCP 3.0 mezzanine slot as well as an OCP 2.0 mezzanine slot for the next generation of add-on cards that won’t impact the limited available PCIe slots. To suit virtualization requirements, the 2U chassis incorporates two 8-pin GPU power connectors.
Using the pre-installed Gigabyte Management Console (GMC), a single server or a small cluster can be controlled to maintain the health of the components. In addition to the Aspeed AST2500 management controller, the R282-Z94 system can be accessed through the internet or the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM) for large server deployments plus large clusters of servers. Gigabyte also offer a mobile app compatible with both Android and iOS smart phones and tablets.
