Offering support for SAS, SATA and NVMe storage devices, the Gigabyte R282-Z97 server features 12x SATA, SAS drives or can be upgraded to support 24x Gen4.0 NVMe drives. Outfitted with 2x AMD EPYC 7003 series processors, it can support up to 8TB of memory and 8x PCIe Gen4.0 expansion slots in a 2U chassis.
In addition, the Gigabyte R282-Z97 server also supports 3rd generation AMD EPYC processors with 3D v-Cache technology, which are targeted at technical computing workloads like Electronic Design Automation, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Finite Element Analysis software and solutions. Compatibility with Tri-Mode storage controllers provide more options with SAS, SATA and NVMe storage devices supported. Using standard AMD EPYC CPUs, this platform also excels at business-critical networking applications like a shared Internet connection, use as a virtual server and general file storage over the network. It’s powered by dual redundant 1600W 80 PLUS Platinum PSUs and can support up to 8TB of memory.
It can be outfitted with 1x or 2x AMD EPYC series processors, either standard or those offering AMDs 3D v-Cache technology. with 3D v-Cache Technology offering three times more cache at 768MB compared to standard 3rd generation CPUs. Both offer up to 64x cores and 128 virtual threads with a thermal design point of 280W, which includes the entire product line. AMD EPYC series processors support PCIe 4.0 and offer 8x memory channels for improved memory support.
With 8x memory channels per CPU and 32x memory module slots on the system board, each processor supports 16x memory modules slots. Registered (RDIMM) and Load-Reduced (LRDIMM) modules plus 3DS RDIMM and LRDIMM memory modules. With both processors installed, standard non-3DS versions support 4TB of memory. Depending on configuration, memory will run at speeds of 3200MHz to 2933MHz,
The default configuration for the Gigabyte R282-Z97 server includes 12x 2.5-inch hot-swap SAS or SATA bays up front, which can be upgraded to support 24x Gen 4 NVMe storage devices. Tri-mode controllers supported on this system provide RAID options for SAS, SATA and NVMe storage devices. There are 2x hot-swappable HDD/SSD bays in the rear plus a slot that can be used to support and optional ultra-fast M.2 drive in a x4 PCIe Gen4 slot on the motherboard. Either can be used to support the operating system. A SAS controller is required for support of SAS drive formats.
With 8x PCIe Gen4.0 slots supported in 3x separate risers; the Gigabyte R282-Z97 server has plenty of expansion potential. All risers are suitable for supporting Tri-mode controllers and can also be requisitioned for network controllers. With twice the throughput compared to PCIe Gen3, PCIe Gen4 offers better support for I/O and NVMe storage devices. There are also 2x dedicated mezzanine slots for support of an OCP 3.0 and OCP 2.0 mezzanine card slot with the later occupying a x8 PCIe Gen3 slot. The OCP 3.0 card is supported in a x16 PCIe Gen4 slot and is easier to access from the back of the system while again providing more throughput than its OCP 2.0 counterpart but in this case, both options are available. On the back of the system are 2x 1GbE LAN ports (1x Intel I350-AM2) and a single 10/100/1000 dedicated management LAN port.
The RJ45 mLAN port on the back of the system provides access to the ASPEED AST2600 baseboard management controller (BMC) for at chassis and remote management of the system. Gigabyte also provides the Gigabyte Management Console preloaded on the system to help manage a single server or small cluster of servers. Gigabyte Server Management, or GSM, is for managing multiple servers or large clusters of servers simultaneously over the Internet. GSM is compatible with IPMI 2.0 and Redfish standards and enables remote monitoring and management in real-time. Both software suites are provided free of charge.
Offering a large memory footprint in addition to flexible storage options, the Gigabyte R282-Z97 server is a flexible platform to address business-critical networking applications. Outfitted with 3rd generation AMD EPYC 3DS v-Cache Technology it offers even greater levels of performance for cache-hungry applications. Free management tools provide administrators with the tools needed to mange the system now and into the future and help provide a quicker return on investment.
