The Gigabyte R283-S98 Server supports a number of revisions, which are differentiated by the PSUs used to power the system and the installation of SAS expanders. Providing compute for this platform are dual 5th or 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, including the Intel Xeon CPU Max series CPUs. There are 32x memory module slots divided between the CPUs, which offer 8-channel memory architecture.
Intel Xeon CPU Max series CPUs deliver high-bandwidth memory to support a number of data-intensive applications. Memory speed is dependent on the installed CPU, memory module, and configuration. Designed for general networking and use as a hybrid/private cloud server, the Gigabyte R283-S98 Server 24x 2.5” storage bays along the front of the system includes support for 8-12x NVMe/SATA/SAS-4 storage devices in addition to 12-16x 2.5” bays specifically for SATA/SAS-4 storage devices. 2x 2.5” SATA/SAS-4 drive bays are located in back and can be used to boot the system or for additional storage. For SAS drive support a SAS storage controller is required and already installed in the AAJ2 and AAE2 configurations. There are several different options for power supply units (PSUs) depending on configuration.
Other SKUs: AAJ2
A number of riser options are also available depending on the workload. Some SKUs support more NVMe drives have an NVMe controller installed in the OCP mezzanine card slots. Additionally, the system supports Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) offering RAID of 0, 1, 5, or 10 for NVMe and SATA storage devices. The Gigabyte Management Console is pre-installed and provides management and maintenance for a single server or small cluster of servers. For more robust management features, and to manage clusters of servers simultaneously over the Internet, there’s Gigabyte Server Management (GSM). GSM is available for download and provides Administrators with real-time system information and is compatible with IPMI and Redfish standards. Additional utilities such as GSM Server, GSM CLI, GSM Agent, GSM Mobile and a GSM Plugin for use with VMware vCenter are included.
