In addition to the front drive bays for E3.S Gen5 NVMe, the Gigabyte R284-S91 Server can also support dual 2.5-inch SATA/SAS-4 drives in a rear mounted drive cage. Two PCIe 5.0 x4 slots on the system board can also be used for additional super-fast storage or to support the OS in a mirrored RAID configuration. CPUs can provide up to 128 cores for in a single socket using those featuring E-cores for power efficiency or up to 288 cores using P-cores. There are 32x memory module slots on the system board which benefit from the Intel Xeon 6 8-memory channel architecture. MCR DIMMs are only supported with Intel Xeon 6 CPUs with performance, or P-cores in a 1x DIMM per channel configuration. Memory speeds are dependent on the configuration and installed memory modules with DDR5 RDIMMs providing 5200-6400MT/s and MCR DIMMs supporting memory speeds of up to 8000MT/s. Processors are limited to a TDP of 350W in a dual-socket implementation.

Network communications include two integrated 1Gb/s LAN ports with a management-specific RJ-45 port via Intel I350-AM2. There is also an OCP 3.0 Gen5 x16 slot plus a full-height, half-length PCIe Gen5 x16 slot for additional network controllers or storage controllers. A SAS Add-in card is required for support of SAS drives. Power is provided by dual 1+1 redundant 2000W 80 Plus Titanium PSUs.

The dedicated RJ-45 management port on the back of the system provides access to the Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller for remote management of the system. Gigabyte Management Console, a free-of-charge management application, is preinstalled on the system and provides for management and maintenance of a single server or small cluster. The Gigabyte Server Management, or GSM software suite, leverages the GSM Agent to manage clusters of servers over the Internet. Additional management tools include GSM Server, GSM CLI, a GSM Mobile application, and more.
