As a hybrid/private cloud server, the Gigabyte R284-S92 would handle tasks like web hosting, eCommerce applications, database, and file storage. For networking applications, it might be assigned to provide for file access via VPN, use as a shared Internet connection, file storage, or use as a virtual server. Highly flexible, with dual-slot FHHL PCIe Gen5 slots, a FHHL single-slot PCIe 5.0 slot, and a PCIe 5.0 x16 OCP 3.0 Mezzanine card slot, this platform can be outfitted to perform a number of workloads. CPUs supported include the Intel Xeon 6700E series with efficiency cores or E-cores, plus the 6700P and 6500P series CPUs featuring performance cores or P-cores.

In addition, there are 2x PCIe Gen5 x4 slots on the system board for support of optional NVMe M.2 drives. The motherboard mounted M.2 drives can also be placed in a mirror RAID for redundant support of the OS or used for additional storage. SAS drive implementation will require a SAS storage controller, and a virtual RAID on CPU key (VROC) is required for support of NVMe RAID options.

Integrated 1GbE ports on the back of the system provide basic network communications, while the system also offers a dedicated management LAN port for remote management. The mLAN port provides access to the integrated Aspeed AST2600 baseboard management controller or BMC. The BMC in turn allows Administrators to access Gigabytes Management Console for managing a single server or small cluster. Furthermore, for large numbers of servers or clusters, gigabyte offers the Gigabyte Server Management or GSM, which leverages the pre-installed Gigabyte Management Console. GSM provides even more tools to manage your network with GSM Server, GSM CLI, the GSM Agent, a plugin for VMware vCenter, and a GSM mobile app for smart phones and tablets.
