Built for artificial intelligence, visual computing, and networking applications, the 2U Gigabyte R284-S93 Server can support up to 2x dual slot PCIe Gen5 GPUs. With dual processors from the Intel Xeon 6 family, this system supports 3x different types of CPUs. The 6700 series with E-cores, the 6700 series with P-cores, and the 6500 series with P-cores. The supported CPUs are limited to a Thermal Design Power rating (TDP) of 300W. However, at ambient 25°C, a maximum TDP of up to 350W is supported. If only one CPU is installed, some PCIe, memory functions, and drive bays might be unavailable.
On the front of the Gigabyte R284-S93 there are 12x 3.5” or 2.5” hot-swap drive bays suitable for Gen5 NVMe/SATA/SAS4 configurations. The rear of the chassis supports an additional drive cage with 2x 2.5" hot-swappable SATA/SAS4 drive bays. Similarly, this system delivers 2x M.2 PCIe Gen5 x4 slots and a 1x M.2 PCIe Gen5 x2 slot on the motherboard to boot the operating system in a mirror RAID. Cards with 2280 and 22110 form factors can be installed. A storage card is required to support SATA and SAS drives. For NVMe RAID support, a Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) key can be installed.
Supported CPUs provide 8-channel memory architecture for 2DPC (2 DIMM Per Channel). RDIMMs and Multiplexor Combined Rank DIMM or MCR DIMMs are supported, but MCRDIMMs can only be utilized when Intel Xeon 6 CPUs with P-cores are installed, and in a 1DPC configuration. RDIMMs can reach speeds of up to 6400 MT/s (1DPC) or 5200 MT/s (2DPC), whereas MCRDIMMs can support up to 8000 MT/s.
Besides the 2x FHFL Gen5 x16 slots available for 2x dual slot GPUs via PCIe cables, the system offers 2x additional FHHL Gen5 x16 slots on their own respective riser cards. For further networking options, there are 2x OCP NIC 3.0 Gen5 x16 slots situated under the previously mentioned slots, on the rear of the chassis. Powering this system are redundant 2700W 80 Plus Titanium power supplies.
Gigabyte provides two free software options for the R284-S93 server for management purposes. This collection of tools includes the Gigabyte Server Management (GSM), a resource suite capable of managing a large cluster of servers. However, a single server or a small cluster can be managed using the preinstalled Gigabyte Management Console. Both can be used remotely or at-chassis.
