Housed in a 2U chassis with 12x 3.5-inch drive bays, the Infortrend EonStor GS 1012 Gen2 Storage appliance has two configuration options. The first option, the GS 1012S2C, houses a single controller which is upgradeable to dual redundant controllers. The second option, the GS 1012R2C, housing dual controllers in a redundant configuration. Regardless of the chosen configuration, controllers support a single Intel Atom 4-core processor. On the front of the server, storage consists of 12x 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drive bays compatible with 2.5-inch drive types.

Outfitted with a single controller or dual redundant controllers, the entry-level Infortrend EonStor GS 1012 Gen2 Storage appliance is outfitted with a single Intel Atom processor with up to 4x physical cores and 4x virtual threads. The single controller has a default cache memory configuration of 8GB of DDR3 memory which can be upgraded to 16GB. With the dual controller configuration, the cache memory capacity is 16GB by default, which can be upgraded to 32GB. Due to the hardware configuration of this high-availability storage enclosure, the thermal design point (TDP) of the CPU is limited to 38W. The front of the server houses up to 12x 3.5-inch drive bays compatible with 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SAS or SATA SSDs or HDDs, in addition to U.2 NVMe SSDs, which may require additional parts.
On the rear of the Infortrend GS 1012, there is a single Ethernet management port along with a SAS expansion port. In addition, there are 4x host ports which have the option to be configured as 4x 16Gb/s or 1GbE ports or 2x 32Gb/s, 10GbE, or 12Gb/s SAS ports. Powering this system are dual 460W 80 Plus bronze rated power supplies in a redundant configuration. Via expansion enclosures a maximum of 448 drives are supported. Via scale-out using other Infortrend Series appliances, per cluster, the maximum number of drives supported can increase to 3136 drives, maximum.
