Based on the high-performance chassis and the basic performance chassis with options for a single or dual controller, there are four different configuration choices available for the Infortrend EonStor GS 2016 Gen1 storage appliance. Intel Pentium 4-core CPUs are supported on the performance variants, while the basic chassis features Pentium 2-core processors. The 3U platform is equipped with 16x LFF drive bays on the front panel. This appliance, which belongs to the GS 2000 series family, is an affordable way to provide a single HDD-based unified storage system with NAS and SAN data storage options.
The EonStor GS 2016 storage, designed for general business applications. Supported controllers can support 16GB to 128GB of DDR4 cache memory with dual redundant controllers, or 8GB to 64GB with a single controller. It is equipped with 16x 3.5-inch drive bays, which are also compatible with 2.5” form factor drives. SAS or SATA HDD or SSD configurations provide data transfer speeds of up to 6Gb/s SATA or 12Gb/s SAS. Block level storage protocols include FC, iSCSI, and SAS. In the case of a power outage, the cache backup is supported by a super capacitor with flash module. These systems differ in that they have distinct controllers supporting dual or quad-core CPUs, variable memory capacity, and network interface host board options.
To reduce the hardware footprint, scale-up expansion allows for the addition of up to 896 drives by connecting each GS unit to a JBOD expansion enclosure. The maximum number of drives that can be supported is 3584 drives when additional Infortrend series appliances are used per cluster for scale-out. Two host board expansion slots provide options for port speed connections. Mounted on the rear of the EonStor GS 2016 storage appliance, the single or dual controllers are outfitted with an ethernet management port, a mini-USB connector, and dual onboard SAS extension connectors. OpenStack Cinder, macOS X, Citrix XenServer, and Windows Server are just a few of the supported operating systems. However, it can also be managed independently using Infortrend’s EonOne software suite. The system is powered by two redundant 460W 80 PLUS Bronze rated power supply units.
