The Lenovo ThinkEdge SE450 Edge Server is a compact, 2U ruggedized system built around a single 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor. These CPUs support up to 36 cores and a maximum TDP of 225W. The SE450 features 10x DDR4 DIMM slots, along with compatibility for Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 Series modules.
It can support a maximum of 1TB using 8x 128GB 3DS RDIMMs or up to 1.5TB of memory with 4x 128GB 3DS RDIMMs and 4x 256GB PMem modules. The short depth Lenovo SE450 Edge Server is designed for remote locations, and can be mounted on a wall, rack, or placed on a shelf. With an operating range of 5°C to 45°C, some configurations are designed to meet NEBS Level-3 and ETSI requirements for 96 hours operating excursions from -5°C and 55°C as well as tolerance to locations with high-dust and vibration.
It delivers various storage configurations with up to 6x 2.5-inch 7mm drive bays. That includes up to 4x internal SSD drive bays supporting non-hot-swap, trayless NVMe or SATA SSD drives, plus up to 2x front accessible 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays supporting NVMe, SAS or SATA SSD. Up to 2x M.2 drives supporting SATA drive formats can be installed to boot the operating system in a RAID 1 configuration for resiliency. The ThinkEdge SE450 is cooled by 6x simple-swap 60 mm dual-rotor fans and powered by either up to 2x hot-swap redundant power supplies with 1100W Titanium or Platinum ratings, or 1800W Platinum ratings.
There are 4x PCIe 4.0 slots with a x16 or x8 length for a wide array of GPU configurations. Up to 4x single-width or 2x double-width GPUs can be accommodated, making it ideal for machine learning, inference, and computer vision workloads. In addition, a dedicated OCP 3.0 SFF slot with PCIe 4.0 x16 host interface is also supported for network communications.
The OCP slot supports a variety of 2-port and 4-port adapters with 1GbE, 10GbE, or 25GbE network connectivity. One port can optionally be shared with the XClarity Controller (XCC) management processor for Wake-on-LAN and NC-SI support. There is an option to upgrade to XCC Advanced to provide remote control functions for the server. Similarly, an optional upgrade to XCC Enterprise enables the additional support for the mounting of remote media files (ISO and IMG image files), boot capture, and power capping.
