The Lenovo ThinkServer RD440 server is a 2U, dual-socket platform with 10-core Xeon performance, flexible storage options, and impressive memory capacity.
The Lenovo ThinkServer RD440 server is a dual-socket, 2U platform that’s a perfect fit for web serving, hosting, and other common business applications. Powered by Intel’s E5-2400 v2 processors, this server supports up to 48TB of data in large-form factor drive configurations, or up to 16TB in small-form-factor configurations. Memory capacity is also impressive with 12 DIMM slots that can support up to 192GB of memory. Server installation and deployment is a hassle-free process with Lenovo’s three-step Easy Startup program.
This dual-socket server supports Intel’s Xeon E5-2400 v2 series which offer up to 10-cores per processor. Processors support Intel’s Turbo Boost Technology, which allows processor cores to function at a faster speed than the rated operating frequency to accelerate overall system performance. Intel’s Virtualization Technology is also supported on these processors to enable hardware-based virtualization capabilities allowing administrators to run several different operating systems on a single server.
Storage options are flexible and administrators can choose between large form factor (LFF) or small form factor (SFF) drive configurations to create the perfect storage solution for their application needs. SFF drive configurations will support up to 16 drives to provide a maximum storage capacity of 16TB. LFF drive configurations provide three times the amount of data storage for data-intensive applications at up to 48TB. Using solid-state drives (SSDs) delivers faster throughput for performance applications.
With a dual processor configuration, the Lenovo RD440 server supports 12 DIMM slots and up to 192GB of memory using registered (RDIMM) memory modules. Support for low-voltage registered (LV RDIMM) memory modules reduces power consumption and keeps operational costs to a minimum without compromising on performance.
The system will support five PCIe slots total. With one processor installed, three PCIe Gen3 slots are active. Dual-processor configurations can support two more PCIe slots for a total of five, both of which are full-height/full-length. In either configuration, a PCIe Gen2 slot is available to connect legacy hardware. The front of the system displays a VGA port and two USB 2.0 ports. A slimline optical drive also fits at the front of the chassis, with the exception of 12 LFF configurations. At the back of the server, there is a serial port, two Ethernet ports, a dedicated management port, another VGA port, and an additional four USB 2.0 ports.
Lenovo’s ThinkServer Management Module (TMM) is an embedded out-of-band operating system that provides secure management features. A premium upgrade key will enable virtual media capabilities enabling administrators to run local media on the server from a remote location. Administrators can also get a report on hot spots and monitor server temperatures with Lenovo’s user-friendly Smart Grid power management tools.
Powered by a maximum of two Intel E5-2400 v2 series processors, the Lenovo ThinkServer RD440 server is a perfect fit for any standard business application needs. A fully-loaded SFF drive configuration provides up to 16TB of storage, or administrators can opt for an LFF drive configuration for three times the amount of data storage. Both solid-state and hard-disk drives are supported. Up to 12 low-voltage DIMM slots provide up to 192GB of memory and save on operational costs with their low power consumption capabilities without hindering performance.
