The Lenovo ThinkServer RD630 server is a 2U, dual-socket platform with flexible storage options and scalable memory capacity to support database applications and virtualized workloads. Intel’s Intelligent Power Technology and Lenovo’s Smart Grid Manager keep operational costs to a minimum.
The Lenovo ThinkServer RD630 server is a dual-processor system built around Intel’s C602J chipset that supports database applications and virtualized infrastructure. This scalable 2U platform features up to 16 small form factor, or 8 large form factor, hot-swap drive bays. Memory capacity is generous with support for up to 20 DIMM slots of registered, or low-voltage registered memory modules. Dual processor configurations offer up to six PCIe 3.0 slots for expansion, one of which is a low-profile slot. Lenovo’s power consumption management tools allow system admins to keep energy costs to a minimum and the ThinkServer Management Module’s remote features reduce the need for on-site support.
This dual-processor server supports Intel’s Xeon E5-2600 processors which offer up to eight processing cores and 16 threads per processor. Xeon E5-2600 processors offer up to 80% more performance compared to the previous generation Intel processors. Intel introduced their Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 with these processors, which deliver up to two times the performance compared to the previous generation. Also released with E5-2600 processors, Intel’s Intelligent Power Technology controls power consumption to provide up to 50% more performance per watt.
This server supports both large form factor (LFF) and small form factor (SFF) drives. Small form factor drive configurations support up to 16 hot-swap SAS or SATA drives and typically perform faster than LFF configurations. For data-hungry applications, large form factor configurations support up to eight hot-swap SAS or SATA drives and provide a higher storage capacity than that of the SFF configuration. System Administrators have their choice between two different RAID controllers: The ThinkServer RAID 500 or the ThinkServer RAID 700. The RAID 500 controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, and 10 with an upgrade option to support RAID levels 5 and 50. For more advance applications, Lenovo’s RAID 700 controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 plus more cache.
Dual-processor configurations support up to 20 registered (RDIMM) memory modules to provide a max memory footprint of 320GB when using 16GB modules. To save on operational costs, administrators can choose to configure this system with up to 16 low-voltage registered dual-inline (LV RDIMM) memory modules for a maximum memory capacity of 256GB. Memory speeds can reach up to 1600MHz, but this capability is dependent on the processor model and memory type. Mixing different memory modules is not supported on this server.
Single processor configurations support up to three PCIe 3.0 slots, one of which is low profile with the remaining two half-length/full-height. Dual processor configurations support an additional two-half-length/full-height PCIe slots for expansion. The front of the Lenovo RD630 server displays two USB 2.0 ports and a VGA port, whereas the back of the system has room for an additional four USB 2.0, another VGA port, a serial port, two Ethernet ports, and a dedicated management port. If desired, an optical drive can be added to the front of the server.
Lenovo’s ThinkServer Management Module (TMM) provides enterprise-class remote management features that allow system admins to easily configure, monitor, and update this server from anywhere—independent from the server’s operating system. Lenovo’s TMM is embedded into each ThinkServer and begins working the moment the power and network cables are connected. Furthermore, Lenovo’s Smart Grid Manager allows administrators to efficiently control power consumption to provide up to 25% saving on energy costs without compromising on system performance.
The Lenovo ThinkServer RD630 server is a dual-socket platform built around Intel’s E5-2600 processors which provide up to an 80% increase in performance compared to previous generation processors. Support for up to 20 registered (RDIMM), or 16 low-voltage registered (LV RDIMM), memory modules allows this server to easily satisfy memory-intensive applications. Storage options are flexible with support for both 2.5” and 3.5” drives which are all hot-swappable for easy upgrades and serviceability. Lenovo’s ThinkServer Management Module offers a suite of remote management tools allowing system admins to monitor, configure, and update the system from anywhere at any time.
