The Lenovo ThinkSystem SR670 V2 houses a variety of NVIDIA PCIe or SXM GPUs for advanced computational acceleration, all in a 3U form factor. The rack server is based on the 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, which support up to 4TB of memory using Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 Series. Depending on the chassis configuration, either 2.5-inch, 3.5-inch or EDSFF drives can be installed. With all this computational power and a large memory footprint, the system is ideal for AI, HPC, and graphical workloads across an array of industries.
Up to 8x double-wide NVIDIA GPUs with NVLink bridges can be installed on the 3U Lenovo ThinkSystem SR670 V2 rack server or up to 4x SXM form factor GPUs depending on the configuration. It features up to 32x active DIMM slots when both Intel Xeon “Ice Lake” processors are mounted on the motherboard and features up to 8x 2.5” drive bays on the front panel. Since the server is packed with components, which in turn radiate heat, it uses Lenovo’s Neptune liquid-to-air (L2A) hybrid cooling technology to keep temperatures within operational tolerances.
Two 3rd generation Intel Xeon Processor Scalable processors with up to 40 cores and 80 threads are supported on the Lenovo SR670 V2 rack server. These “Ice Lake” CPUs have core speeds of up to 3.6 GHz and a configurable thermal design power (TDP) of up to 270W each, all in a 10nm process technology. Lenovo uses the Neptune liquid-to-air (L2A) hybrid cooling technology to quickly disperse heat. This technology provides the benefits of liquid cooling for higher density configurations, resulting in reduced power consumption, quiet operation, and higher performance, without the need for additional plumbing.
3rd generation Xeons offer up to 8x memory channels each, and in this case provide, 2x DIMMs per channel, for a total of 32x active DIMM slots when both CPUs are mounted. The SR670 V2 uses Lenovo TruDDR4 memory operating at up to 3200MHz, the fastest memory speeds available. Using 128 GB 3DS RDIMMs, the machine supports a total of 4TB of memory, meanwhile up to 4TB of memory is supported when 16x 128GB 3DS RDIMMs and 16x 128GB DCPMM modules are installed.
A choice of SATA, SAS, or NVMe drive bays can be installed on the ThinkSystem SR670 V2. Up to 4x 3.5-inch, 6x EDSFF, or 8x 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays can line the front of the system, depending on the GPU model chosen. EDSFF (Enterprise and Datacenter SSD Form Factor drive bays) support NVMe drives, which are all connected using 4x PCIe lanes. A maximum of 122TB of storage is available when SAS SSDs are selected. In addition, the server also supports one or two M.2 drives for OS boot functions, installed in an M.2 adapter inside the server.
Up to four PCIe 4.0 x16 slots plus an OCP slot can be found on the back of the chassis for support of I/O and storage controllers, depending on the GPU and drive bay configuration selected. Delivering optimal performance across industries, the system supports the latest NVIDIA Ampere architecture GPUs such as the HGX A100, A100, A40, A30, A10, and T4. Up to 8x double-wide GPUs with NVLink bridges or 8x single-wide GPUs are placed towards the front of the system. 4x SXM GPUs can also be installed depending on the configuration. NVIDIA NVLink when outfitted with the SXM option, offers a GPU-to-GPU direct connection of up to 600 GB/s bandwidth, allows for a larger combined memory footprint for bigger batch sizes or the processing of larger images.
For local management, the front panel has a USB port to connect a mobile device, as well as a dedicated XClarity Controller port to connect an external handset. The back of the server has a dedicated RJ45 connector for remote management using the XClarity Controller control processor. The port provides rates of 10/100/1000 Mbps.
Supporting the latest technology with NVIDIA Ampere GPUs, 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, DCPMMs, and EDSFF drive bays, this system delivers the power for a variety of industry-specific workloads. Ideal for Artificial Intelligence (AI), High Performance Computing (HPC) and graphical workloads, the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR670 V2 rack server provides up to 4TB of memory and offers several storage capacities with SAS, SATA, and NVMe drive bays, plus optional configurations supporting PCIe or SXM GPU form factors.
