Equipped with 2x 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR780a V3 GPU server provides power for compute-intensive AI and HPC workloads. Each CPU can deliver up to 56 cores and 112 threads, along with a maximum TDP of 350W. This 5U server supports up to 8x GPUs, including NVIDIA HGX H100/H200/B200 GPUs with NVLink interconnects offering 900GB/s bandwidth. The SR780a V3 leverages Lenovo’s proprietary Neptune liquid cooling technology to efficiently manage thermal conditions, ensuring peak performance for CPUs, GPUs, and NVLink switches.
Ideal for AI workloads including modeling, training, simulation, rendering, financial tech, and scientific research, the ThinkSystem SR780a V3 GPU server supports a NVIDIA BlueField-3 DPU adapter to enable software-defined, hardware-accelerated IT infrastructures. Each GPU is also capable of splitting its resources into 7 parts through MIG or Multi-instance GPU. Up to 3TB of DDR5 memory can be installed when all 32x DIMM slots are filled with 96GB RDIMMs. With one DIMM per memory channel (1DPC) memory can run at up to 5600MHz or at up to 4400MHz with 2DPC. Front-accessible hot-swap drive bays include 8x 2.5-inch drives, while the rear supports 4x 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays in place of one of the rear PCIe slots. All drive bays support NVMe drives with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. Additionally, the SR780a V3 features dual M.2 slots for 22110 form factor cards, convenient for booting the operating system or expanding storage capacity. An optional Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) key enables the 2x M.2 drives to be configured as a redundant pair.
The front of the chassis features 8x PCIe 5.0 x16 FHHL slots that can be outfitted with up to 8x NDR 400Gb/s Infiniband network adapters offering high-speed GPU Direct support. The rear offers 2x PCIe 5.0 x16 FHHL slots. As an option, one of which can be replaced by 4x additional 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays, as previously mentioned. The server is equipped with up to 8x hot-swap redundant power supplies, offering N+N redundancy and each providing up to 2600W of power with 230V Titanium Level Gen2 efficiency. For system management, the built-in XClarity Controller 2 (XCC2) monitors system parameters, issues alerts, and initiates recovery actions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
