The Supermicro A+ Server 4124GS-TNR is a 4U system specifically built to house up to 8x GPUs. Dual AMD EPYC 7003 or 7002 Series Processors are supported in two sockets. Capabilities of this system include AI / Deep Learning, High Performance Computing, Cloud Gaming, and Molecular Dynamics Simulation. It supports up to 8TB of memory and the front of the system houses 24x 2.5-inch hybrid drive bays.
Dual CPU sockets on the Supermicro A+ Server 4124GS-TNR support AMD EPYC 7003 MILAN or 7002 ROME Processors. Milan X processors with expanded cache are also supported. The system board houses a total of 32x DIMM slots divided evenly between each CPU socket. On the front of the system there are a total of 24x hybrid 2.5-inch drive bays. It can hold a total of 8x double-width or single-width GPUs. As a dual -root system half of the GPUs are assigned to each of the GPUs, which offers performance gains for certain applications over a single-root implementation, and vice versa. This high-performance system is powered by 4x 2000W PSUs in a 2+2 redundant configuration.
Depending on the chosen processor, each AMD EPYC 3rd or 2nd generation processor can provide 8 to 64x Physical Cores and 16x to 128x Virtual Threads. 3rd generation MILAN X processors are also supported offering significantly more cache at 768MB compared to other 3rd generation offerings and are available with 16 to 64 cores. Potentially, a fully configured Supermicro Server 4124GS-TNR can hold up to 128x Physical Cores and 256x Virtual Threads with both CPU sockets populated. The system architecture supports a CPU Thermal Design Point of 280W. The TDP support CPUs with cores of 8 to 64.
There are a total of 24x 2.5-inch hybrid drive bays on the front of the Supermicro 4124GS-TNR. It is possible to configure the system to house 18x 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive bays as well as 4x 2.5-inch NVMe drive bays. 4x 2.5-inch NVMe drive bays and 2x 2.5-inch SATA drives are supported natively with the SATA drives in a RAID 1 only via an onboard controller. The remaining 18x drives can be configured for SAS or SATA.
Each CPU socket on the Supermicro A+ 4124GS-TNR supports 16x DIMM slots for a total of 32x DIMM slots on the system board. Registered and Load Reduced DIMMs are fully supported on this system along with their 3DS versions. When fully configured this system holds a maximum of 8TB 3DS ECC DDR4 3200MHz RDIMM or LRDIMM of memory. A minimum of 4x DIMMs per CPU is required when using 3rd generation EPYC processors.
A total of 8x double-width or single-width GPUs can be installed on the Supermicro Server 4124GS-TNR. The supported GPUs on this system includes NVIDIA A100, V100, A40, T4, Quadro RTX, and AMD Instinct. Both actively and passively cooled GPUs are supported on this system. GPUs are linked to one another via the optional NVIDIA NVLINK Bridge or AMD Infinity Fabric. Without NVMe drives, the system can support up to 10x PCIe 4.0 x16 PCIe slots. However, if NVMe drives are installed only 9x PCIe 4.0 slots are available. Two 1GbE LAN ports on the back of the system provide basic networking but PCIe mounted network interface controllers (NICs) can be installed for faster data transmission rates. With certain GPU configurations, alternative chassis covers are available (1U lid and .5U lid) and provide for greater clearance of the cabling or NVlink Bridge.
Supermicro offers a suite of management software features such as the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0, KVM with dedicated LAN, SSM, SPM, SUM, SuperDoctor 5, and Watchdog. The Aspeed AST2500 Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) provides access to the system either on site or remotely.
The Supermicro A+ Server 4124GS-TNR is a 4U Rackmountable GPU server designed for High-Performance Computing, AI/Deep Learning, Cloud Gaming, and Molecular Dynamics Simulation. The system can hold up to 8x GPUs in a dual-root architecture. The dual-socket configuration on the system board supports 2nd or 3rd Generation AMD EPYC Series Processors, including the Milan X series processors with greater cache memory. The front of the system houses 24x hybrid 2.5-inch drive bays, and at maximum capacity up to 8TB of memory.
