Description

Perfect for the cloud or data center, the Supermicro A+ Server 1114S-WN10RT is a very flexible appliance and will only take up 1U of rack space for some impressive performance. The single AMD EPYC CPU also means reduced costs for certain applications that charge by the socket licensing fees. The hybrid backplane gives administrators options for support of up to 10x NVMe or 10x SATA3 drive types. Two RJ45 ports on the back of the system provide 10G Ethernet LAN access. The system offers dual redundant PSUs of either 700W or 750W, however, redundancy is based on configuration and application load.

Performance

With up to 64 cores, this system can still deliver more cores with a single 2nd or 3rd generation AMD EPYC processor than an Intel platform offering dual high-end platinum processors. The thermal design point (TDP) of 280W basically means you can choose from any AMD EPYC 7002 or 7003 series processor in the lineup. Each processor also supports 8x memory channels and up to 128 PCIe lanes, a good portion of which are being used to support the upfront NVMe drives.

Memory

Memory capacity is the same whether you are using 3DS registered (RDIMM) or load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. Either option will provide up to 4TB of memory using the appropriate memory modules and provide speeds of up to 3200MHz. However, memory speed is dependent on both the processor memory speed supported and the speed of the memory modules to be included.

Storage

Choose from either 10x U.2 NVMe4/NVMe3 all flash drives or 10x SATA3 storage devices. U.2 NVMe and SATA drive types do not require additional hardware in the form of PCIe bridge cards and can be plugged directly into the system board. This system offers full hybrid drive support plus hot swap for easy installation and removal of storage devices. Two PCIe 4.0 slots on the system board support NVMe M.2 drives for support of the OS.

Expansion

All PCIe slots on the system board are PCIe 4.0. There are 2x x16 full-height, half-length (FH, HL) slots and a single x16 low profile (LP) slot. As previously mentioned, there are two x4 slots on the system board for support of M.2 SATA or PCIe drive types. 2x SuperDOM (disk on Module) can also be installed to support the OS.

Management

A dedicated RJ-45 port on the back of the A+ 1114S-WN10RT server provides access to the baseboard management controller or BMC with a dedicated LAN. The BMC is integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI) compatible providing easy integration with other 3rd party hardware. Additional management applications include SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) providing a total view of system assets through a standard browser and can be configured to send alerts, plus Watch Dog.

The Supermicro A+ Server 1114S-WN10RT is a perfect appliance for virtualization and cloud computing with all flash U.2 NVMe storage providing rapid data access. Powered by a single AMD EPYC processor, the system also provides a relative cost savings compared to dual socket configurations if licensing of applications is based on a per-socket billing model. Supporting up to 4TB of memory, this system will easily fit into a crowded enclosure with its 1U chassis form factor.
