Supporting 2x separate server nodes in this 2U chassis, the 24-bay Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-DNC0R is designed for compute intensive applications. Each of the two hot plug server nodes supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the first or second generation, plus up to 6TB of memory.
The 24x drive bays are divided equally between the 2x server nodes. Each node on the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-DNC0R is allocated 4x NVMe/SAS/SATA bays and the other 8x are specifically for SATA or SAS drives. Two 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors provide the processing power for use in a hyperconverged or hyperscale networking environment.
*This system is only sold as a completely assembled system including, 2x CPUs, 2x DIMM modules, 1x HDD/NVMe drive, and 1x SIOM card, per server node.
2x processors from either the first- or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors can be installed on this system. 2nd generation processors will provide a more than 19% increase in performance. Each processor has 6x memory channels and is in charge of 12 memory module slots. 2x Titanium level 2200W PSUs are installed in the back of the system and provide a 1+1 redundancy in the event of a power failure.
At up to 6TB of memory per node, that’s 12TB with both chassis at capacity. Both registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) 3DS memory modules are supported for up to 6TB of memory. If using 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors then data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) are also supported providing more speed and resiliency. Depending on your choice of memory modules, memory speeds ranging from 2133MHz to 2933MHz are supported.
With 24x hybrid storage bays up front, each of the two server nodes is allocated 12x drive bays. Four of those are hybrid supporting SAS/SATA/NVMe and the other 8x are SASIII. The SAS drives will require a Broadcom 3216 controller. Two internal slots on the motherboard can be outfitted with either NVMe or SATAIII M.2 storage devices to support the OS.
A dedicated slot located in the back of each server sled is for a Supermicro I/O module (SIOM), which offers flexible networking options with a choice of network connection speeds and number of ports. There are also 2x PCIe 3.0 x8 ports and 1x PCIe3.0 x16 slot for networking and RAID controllers.
The Supermicro 2029BT-DNC0R server is managed via the RJ45 port on the back of the system. An integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI) provides access to the baseboard management controller (BMC) and utilizes the ASPEED AST2500 module for at-chassis and remote management of the system. Additional utilities like the Supermicro Server Manager address the entire system, while other programs monitor power and updates to provide more granular control. Various LEDs on the front panel also provide a visual cue when there are maintenance issues.
Outfitted with 2x hot-plug server nodes, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-DNC0R is a perfect appliance for high-performance computing applications or for use as an enterprise server. Each node supports 12x hybrid drive bays capable of supporting SAS, SATA, and NVMe drives. Each server node also supports more than 6TB for support of in-memory database applications.
