Featuring 4x separate hot-swappable server nodes in a 2U chassis, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-HNC1R has 24x hybrid storage bays up front equally distributed between the server nodes. Each of the four server nodes also support 2x Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 2nd generation for up to 6TB of memory, plus support for data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM).
The Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-HNC1R is designed for high-performance computing applications, data centers and for use as an enterprise server. Offering high-density in a 2U platform, the 24x up-front drives are divided evenly between the 4x dual socket server nodes. The drive bays can be configured with all SAS drives or with 4x NVMe drives and 2x SAS drives, per node. Each server node is capable of supporting up to 6TB of memory for up to 24TB of memory with all server nodes at full capacity.
*This chassis is only available in a configuration with a minimum of 2x CPUS, 2x DIMMs, 1 HDD/NVME and 1x Supermicro I/O mezzanine (SIOM) card, per node.
Two processors per server sled mean up to 8x CPUs in a 2U chassis. 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are supported. Although, CPUs with a TDP 200W or greater are only supported under certain configurations. Each CPU supports 6x memory channels.
With 6x memory channels per CPU, each processor is in charge of 12x DIMM slots for a total of 24x active memory module slots in a 2-processor configuration. Each node can support up to 6TB of 3DS registered (RDIMM) or load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules operating at up to 2933MHz. Intel Optane data centric persistent memory modules are only supported with 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
Each of the 4x server sleds is allocated 6x of the 24x 2.5-inch drive bays in front. Each node’s allocation includes 6x SASIII drives or a combination of 4x NVMe drives paired with 2x SASIII hot-swap drives. An optional add on card (AOC) provides 2x M.2 slots for either SATAIII or NVMe drives. SAS drives do require a discrete HD/RAID controller which in this case is the Broadcom 3108 offering RAID configurations of 0, 1, 5, 60, 10, 50, and 60.
Along with optional M.2 AOC, the Supermicro 2029BT-HNC1R also supports a Supermicro I/O module (SIOM) to support flexible networking options that won’t detract from the limited PCIe slots. There is a single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot that can be used for additional I/O.
The ASPEED AST2500 baseboard management controller (BMC) helps administrators manage the system at-chassis and remotely. The RJ45 port on the back of the system provides access to the integrated platform management interface (IPMI) LAN port. Several other applications provide additional tools including, Watch Dog, SuperDoctor5 (SD5), plus the Supermicro Server Manager (SSM) and power and update managers. Licensing for applications is required.
Outfitted with 4x separate dual-socket server nodes, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-HNC1R can be used to support a number of high-performance workloads. At up to 6TB per server node, with all nodes operating at capacity this 2U platform will support up to 24TB of memory, plus 6x hybrid storage bays.
