Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-HTR

Description

This system was designed for high-performance computing tasks in the data center or as part of a hyperscale or hyperconverged network. The Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 2029BT-HTR supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors in each of the 4x server nodes. The system has 2x 2200W Titanium level power supply units operating in a 1+1 redundancy.

*This system is only available as a complete system with a minimum of 2x CPUs, 2x DIMM module, 1x HDD, and 1x SIOM card, per server node.

Performance

Each node has two Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs from the first or second generation supporting up to 28 cores and 56 threads of processing power residing on an X11 motherboard. These CPUs feature 6x memory channels with 12x per processor and 24x active memory module slots in a two-processor configuration.

Memory

With 12x memory module slots and 6x memory channels per processor, you can install two memory modules in each memory channel. Memory speed is dependent on both the CPU and memory modules, but can run at up to 2933MHz with both supporting this memory speed. At capacity, the system still supports up to 6TB of memory using either 3DS registered (RDIMM) or load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. Data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) are only supported using 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and must be paired with either RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules.

Storage

The 24x hot-swap SATA3 storage bays on the front of the system are allocated evenly between the 4x server nodes. Virtual RAID on CPU (vROC) is supported, offering a low-cost alternative to RAID functionality for SSD storage devices. SATA3 drives are supported natively on this system, but you can also install SAS drives with a discrete HD/RAID controller. A dedicated slot on the motherboard is for a Supermicro disk on module (DOM) that can be used to host the OS or a hypervisor.

Expansion

A dedicated slot on the Supermicro 2029BT-HTR has a single Supermicro I/O module (SIOM) supporting several different I/O cards connection speeds and ports for flexible networking options. Two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots are also available for support of additional network cards. The SIOM card provides network connectivity to the system and can be bundled with a network card for each of the 4x server nodes.

Management

A dedicated RJ45 port on the back of the chassis provides access to the integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI) via the baseboard management controller, or BMC. The dedicated LAN connection uses the ASPEED AST2500 BMC for at-chassis and remote management of the system. Various other applications like Intel Node Manager, Supermicro’s Server Manager (SSM) and Supermicro Power Manager (SPM) provide more granular controls through a standard browser interface.
