Offering optional all-flash NVMe for hyperconverged infrastructures, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 220BT-HNTR offers 4x hot-swap server nodes. Each of the 4x server nodes is outfitted with dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors supporting up to 6TB. The 24x NVMe/SATA front-mounted drive bays are divided evenly between the 4x server nodes.
Perfect for use as an all-flash storage system for a hyperconverged infrastructure, or for use in a diskless HPC cluster, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 220BT-HNTR supports 4x dual socket server nodes. Each of the nodes is outfitted with 2x Intel Xeon Scalable processors with 20 DIMM slots that include dedicated slots for support of persistent memory modules or PMem.
*This system is only available completely assembled. For optimal performance it’s recommended to install 16 DIMMs per node, however, minimal system configuration includes 2x CPUs, 2x DIMMs, and 1x NIC per server node.
Each of the 4x server nodes supported in this chassis support dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and 6x of the upfront drive bays. These 3rd generation CPUs deliver up to 40 cores and 80 threads, plus faster memory and PCIe 4.0. They also support 8x memory channels compared to just 6x on the previous generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The system is powered by 1+1 redundant Titanium level PSUs.
There are 20x memory module slots total, in each of the 4x server nodes, that are divided between the two processors. Of those 10x memory slots and 8x memory channels per processor, 2x of those channels are populated with two memory modules each, while the other 6x support only a single memory module. Memory configurations include all dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) modules in 16x slots for up to 4TB of memory or a configuration with 8x DRAM modules paired with 8x PMem modules for up to 6TB of memory. Another option includes 16x DRAM modules with 4x PMem modules.
Storage is provided at the chassis level with 24x front-mounted drive bays that are divided equally between the 4x server nodes. The drive bays support either SATA or NVMe drives, including NVMe hybrid. A dedicated PCIe 3.0 x8 slot located on the side of the memory modules will support an add-on card supporting dual SATA or NVMe M.2 drives and includes a boot controller.
Along with the dedicated slots for support of the optional M.2 AOC, there are two low-profile PCIe 4.0 x16 slots for support of optional expansion cards. Another connection on the motherboard at the back of the chassis supports the Advanced I/O module (AIOM) for network connectivity that is also OCP 3.0 compliant.
There are several options for managing this platform including the Supermicro SuperDoctor 5 application along with a few other applications for directly managing power usage and one for updates. A Supermicro Out-of-Band license is required to support remote access to the server for each of the server sleds. Intel Node Manager is also an option, providing a comprehensive set of tools for managing the server nodes.
The Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 220BT-HNTR is a high-density system that delivers powerful performance with Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors. This system is designed to support a variety of workloads including Container-as-a-Service, All-Flash NVMe Hyperconverged Infrastructures, Diskless HPC Clusters, and other high-performance workloads.
