Just like the other systems in the Supermicro BigTwin lineup, the 2U, 12-bay Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 6029BT-HNC0R is designed for compute intensive applications in the data center. With 4x hot-swap dual socket server nodes, this system is also a great choice for hyperscale and hyperconverged networks. Each node supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors and up to 6TB of memory.
For compute intensive applications, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 6029BT-HNC0R delivers with 4x dual socket server nodes in a 2U chassis. This is a high-density system with 4x dual socket server nodes providing up to 8 CPUs and up to 24TB of memory. Storage bays are also compatible with SAS3 and NVMe drive options for greater resiliency and speed.
The system comes with a minimum of two 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors per server node with up to 28 cores and 56 threads each. With all 4x server nodes outfitted with 28-core processors, that would be up to 228 cores and 448 threads in a 2U chassis. Each processor has 8x memory channels and up to 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes for optional external devices or for support of the local drives. Processors at the higher end of the thermal design point (TDP) spectrum may only be supported under certain conditions.
Each of the dual processors in each of the 4x server nodes supports 12x memory slots for a total of 24x active memory module slots with both processors installed. With only 6x memory channels per processor, at maximum capacity there would be 2x memory modules per memory channel for up to 6TB of memory. Supported memory types include 3DS registered (RDIMM) and load-reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules. Data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) are also supported, but only with 2nd generation intel Xeon Scalable CPUs. Memory will run at up to 2933MHz with the appropriate processors and memory modules installed.
The 12x 3.5-inch storage bays on the front of the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 6029BT-HNC0R are evenly distributed among the 3x hot-swap server nodes with each in control of 3x drive bays. Both SAS3 and NVMe drives are supported, although mixing of HDD and SSD drive types may require additional hardware. An add-on card supporting dual NVMe or SATA 3 M.2 drives has a dedicated slot on the motherboard adjacent to the memory modules and can be used to host the OS.
Along with the dedicated slots for the M.2 AOC and another for support of the Supermicro I/O Module card, each of the server nodes supports 2x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots. Allocating SAS3 drives in one of the nodes will require a Broadcom LSI 3008 controller in one of those PCIe slots. Additional I/O cards can also be installed for greater network bandwidth.
Management of each server is through the integrated RJ45 port on the back of each node. This provides access to the integrated platform management interface 2.0 (IPMI 2.0) and the ASPEED AST2500 module on the system board for remote and at-chassis management of the system. Several applications like Intel Node Manager, SuperDoctor 5, and Watchdog provide more specific information on status and inventory using a standard web browser.

Each node supports dual sockets and up to 3TB of memory for compute intensive tasks. 12x 3.5-inch NVMe or SAS3 bays in front are divided equally between the server nodes with each one getting 3x drives.
