Optimized for hyperconverged infrastructures and scale-out file storage, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 620BT-HNC8R is a 2U 4-node system packed with the latest hardware. The system features dual third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, 2x PCIe 4.0 slots, and up to 6TB of memory per server node.
Presenting 12x drive bays on the front of the system, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 620BT-HNC8R allocates 3x hot-swap 3.5” drive bays per node. Each server node also supports up to 6TB of memory when using Intel Optane Persistent 200 series memory modules (PMem) in combination with standard DRAM modules. Administrators can control BIOS, baseboard management controller (BMC), and Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) remotely using Supermicro’s Out-of-Band (OOB) management software.
*This system is only sold as a completely assembled system with a minimum of 2x CPUs, 2x DIMMs, and 1x NIC per node. For optimal performance, at least 16 DIMMs are recommended per node.
Supporting a thermal design power of up to 270W with liquid cooling and up to 185W with air cooling, the BigTwin 620BT-HNC8R features dual processors in each node. The chassis incorporates two redundant 2600W power supplies, allowing one of the power sources to be swapped out without shutting down the system. The X12 generation motherboards support 3rd gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 32 cores and 64 threads. With these CPUs installed, memory capacity can reach up to 6TB of memory when using DRAM modules and PMem memory modules in tandem.
Up to 6TB of memory is supported on each of the 4x server nodes in the SuperServer 620BT-HNC8R when all 20x memory slots are populated with 16x registered (RDIMM) memory modules and 4x PMem modules. Memory speeds of up to 3200MHz can be reached with both types of modules installed. Up to 4TB of 3DS ECC RDIMM DDR4 memory is supported on the server when using only 16x DRAM DIMMs and leaving the PMem slots vacant. This configuration allows memory speeds of up to 2933MHz.
With 4x separate computing nodes, each node controls a set of 3x storage bays for a total of 12x hot-swap 3.5” drive bays presented horizontally on the front panel. The server can be configured to support hard disk drives or solid-state drives with SAS3, SATA3, or NVMe drive interfaces. SAS drives will require an HD/RAID controller. Virtual RAID on CPU, or vROC, is also supported and offers basic RAID functionality for solid state drives.
There are 2x low-profile, half-height PCIe 4.0 x16 slots on the back of each node. Expansion cards are mounted in the riser cards that plug into the motherboard. The 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots on the risers can support a maximum of 2x NVIDIA T4 GPUs per node to process a variety of data, accelerate graphics rendering, and for distributed environments. For support of the OS, the motherboard has a dedicated slot for an M.2 NVMe RAID controller. An advanced I/O module (AIOM) card offers several choices of connection speeds and port types.
An Out-of-Band (OOB) license from Supermicro allows administrators to access the server nodes from anywhere at any time via a standard browser connection. Additional layers of control are provided by a variety of other management applications including Watchdog, SuperDoctor 5, and the integrated platform management interface (IPMI 2.0).
The hybrid 2U 4-node Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 620BT-HNC8R is ready for current and future technology. Each of the 4x server nodes is optimized for 2x NVIDIA T4 GPUs, 2x 3rd gen Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs with up to 270W when using liquid cooling, and up to 6TB of memory when DDR4 and PMem memory modules are installed.
