Featuring 4x hot swappable server nodes, Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 620BT-HNTR has 12x 3.5-inch storage bays compatible with both NVMe and SATA drive formats. Each of the server nodes is allocated 3x drive bays and supports dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 6TB of memory including support for data centric persistent memory modules.
The Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 620BT-HNTR offers powerful high-density performance for hyperconverged infrastructures and data centers with 4x dual socket server nodes. Each node has two Intel Xeon Scalable processors and up to 6TB of memory for a combined total of 8x CPUs and up to 24TB of memory in a 2U chassis. ON/Off button for each of the server nodes are located in either the left or right server nodes. The shared power design features dual Titanium level 2600W PSUs.
Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors deliver a 1.46% increase in performance over the previous generation with support for up to 40 cores and 80 threads plus PCIe 4.0. Although on this chassis CPU support is limited to 185W, which includes processors with 32 cores and 64 threads. These processors also support significantly more memory bandwidth with 8x memory channels compared to only 6x with the previous generation Xeon Scalable processors.
8x memory channels is 2x more than any of the previous generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors provided allowing for significantly more memory supported. Supermicro lists 10x memory module slots supported by each processor for a total of 20x active memory modules per server sled with both processors installed. 16x are allocated for DRAM modules while the other 4x provide support for Intel’s data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) also referred to as PMem, or persistent memory modules. Additional configurations include all DDR4 DRAM in 16x slots for up to 4TB or slots split, with 8x DRAM modules paired with 8x PMem modules.
Each of the 4x server nodes is allocated 3x of the up-front 3.5-inch storage bays. The storage bays have a hybrid backplane to support both NVMe and SATA drive formats. An internal PCIe-mounted NVMe M.2 add-on-card has a dedicated PCIe x8 slot on the motherboard that can be used as a boot controller.
The Supermicro 620BT-HNTR server has 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 low-profile slots for support of network interface controllers or HD/RAID controllers. These are in addition to the dedicated slots for the M.2 boot controller and the slot for the Advanced I/O module for network communications.
Supermicro’s Out-of-Band (OOB) license gives administrators access to the server remotely over a standard browser connection. OOB saves administrators time by allowing them to manage the system from anywhere at any time. Various other management applications provide additional layers of control, like Supermicros Server Manager (SSM) and Supermicro’s Power Manager. This system is also compatible with Intel’s Node Manager. Access to the server is provided by a dedicated 1GbE RJ45 port on the back of the system.
With 4x hot-swappable dual-socket server nodes in a 2U chassis, the Supermicro BigTwin SuperServer 620BT-HNTR offers high density for the data center or cloud. This system is a perfect fit for hyperconverged infrastructures, for container storage, or a scale-out file server. Four separate server nodes allow administrators to run several different operating systems and applications on the same chassis.
