The Supermicro CloudDC SuperServer 120C-TR is a 1U system designed to handle mission-critical tasks such as Web Server and Firewall applications. The system supports dual CPU sockets compatible with Intel’s 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable Processors. Each CPU socket supports 8x DIMM slots for a total of 16x DIMM slots on the system board. On the front of the system there are 8x 2.5-inch hot-swap SATA/SAS drive bays.
In addition to use as a Web Server and for Firewall applications, this system is also a fit for Data Center Optimized IaaS, Cloud Computing, Compact Server applications, and use as an Edge Node. The Supermicro CloudDC SuperServer 120C-TR is a dual socket server compatible with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors featuring support for more and faster memory plus PCIe 4.0 offering twice the bandwidth compared to PCIe 3.0. With a total of 16x DIMM slots on the system board evenly divided between each of the CPU sockets, at capacity it can accommodate up to 6TB of memory. The front of the system holds 8x 2.5-inch hybrid drive bays. There is access to 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 slots on the rear of the system which can house up to 2x Full-Height, Half-Length GPUs all in this 1U form factor.
Intel’s new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors require slightly larger sockets than the 1st and 2nd generation SP line. Because of the hardware specifications on the Supermicro CloudDC 120C-TR Server the Thermal Design Point of the CPUs are limited to 270W. Although some CPUs with a TDP higher than 185W may require addition support conditions due to power and thermal limitations. Compatible CPUs on this system include support up to 40x Physical Cores and 80x Virtual Threads with up to 60MB of cache. Each processor support 8x memory channels and a PCIe 4.0 bus with 64 lanes.
The front of the Supermicro 120C-TR Server houses 8x 2.5-inch SATA/SAS drive bays. In addition, there are 2x M.2 NVMe 2280 PCIe 3.0 x2 drive slots on the system board. The NVMe drives are for fast access storage and OS installation. The supported RAID levels on this system using the integrated SW RAID utility are 0/1/5/10. SAS drive implementations will require a separate HBA/RAID controller offering SAS at 12Gb/s and SATA support at 6Gb/s. There is also a peripheral media bay that supports a single DVD-ROM drive bay.
In total there are 16x DIMM slots on the 120C-TR system board, with each CPU socket in charge of 8x DIMM slots. The Supermicro SuperServer 120C-TR can be outfitted with either DDR4 Load Reduced DIMMs and Registered DIMMs. In addition, Intel Optane persistent memory 200 series memory modules (PMem) are also supported on this system. Maximum memory configurations available for this system include 4TB using 16x 256GB DRAM modules or up to 6TB using 8x 256GB DRAM modules paired with 8x 512GB PMem modules. Compatible memory speeds on this system are 3200MHz, 2933MHz, and 2666MHz, depending on your choice of CPU and memory modules.
To accommodate for system expansion there are 2x PCIe 4.0 x16 Full-Height, Half-Length slots. These slots are accessible through the rear of the chassis and can be outfitted with a maximum of 2x GPUs. Two additional mezzanine card slots on the back of the chassis support a PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 Advanced I/O module (AIOM), also known as an OCP mezzanine card slot. Both slots support an OCP 3.0 mezzanine card with port and connection speed options to support your workload. The system features a dedicated Integrated Platform Management Interface (IPMI) LAN port on the back of the system for remote management of the system. No integrated network ports are included on this chassis.
Supermicro’s suite of management software options include SCC, Redfish API, Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0, SSM, Intel Node Manager, SPM, KVM with dedicated LAN, SUM, NMI, Watch Dog, and Super Doctor 5. Supermicro’s Out of Band (OOB) Software License Key is required to access remote management features.
