The Supermicro CloudDC SuperServer 620C-TN12R is a dual socket system compatible with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Tasks such as Web Server and Firewall applications, Data Center Optimized IaaS, Cloud Computing, Compact Server applications, DNS and Gateway Servers, and Firewall applications are well optimized for this system. There a total of 16x DIMM slots divided evenly between each CPU socket. The front of the system houses 12x 3.5-inch hot-swap drive bays hybrid drive bays.
Designed for Web Server, Firewall Applications, Cloud Computing, Compact Server applications, DNS and Gateway Servers, and Firewall applications, the Supermicro CloudDC 620C-TN12R is a 2U system compatible with Intel 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable Processors. Each CPU socket supports 8x DIMM slots for a total of 16x DIMM slots on the system board. There are a total of 6x PCIe expansion slots on the system board and the system is capable of supporting up to 6x GPUs. On the system board there are two M.2 NVMe drive slots for fast access storage or to support the OS in mirror mode.
The hardware specifications of the Supermicro CloudDC 620C-TN12R limit the Thermal Design Point for the 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs to 270W. However, even with this limitation the maximum Physical Core count supported includes processors with up to 40x cores and 80x Virtual Threads. Each processor also supports 8x memory channels and a PCIe 4.0 bus for greater I/O bandwidth and NVMe storage support.
On the front of the Supermicro 620C-TN12R there are a total of 12x 3.5-inch NVME/SATA/SAS hot-swappable drive bays. The NVMe drive bays need additional cables from the optional parts list in order to be active. In addition, if more than 8x NVMe drives are in use, some PCIe expansion slots get disabled. The default 3.5-inch drive trays also accept 2.5-inch drive form factors. Optionally, the system can also support a rear drive cage with two 2.5-inch bays. Two NVMe M.2 slots on the system board can be used for additional super-fast storage or to support the OS. There are two SATADOM slots on the system board but physical space to support only one.
A total of 16x DIMM slots can be found on the system board of the Supermicro CloudDC 620C-TN12R that are divided evenly between the two processors. Compatible memory modules on this system include DDR4 Registered DIMMs and Load Reduced DIMMs. Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 Series are also available on this system. Depending on the chosen memory modules, there are two options for a maximum memory configuration. The 4TB configuration uses 16x 256GB DRAM modules while the 6TB option uses 8x 256GB DRAM modules and 8x 512GB PMem 200 series modules. Compatible memory speeds on this system include 3200MHz, 2933MHz, and 2666MHz depending on the processor, memory module and memory configuration.
To expand the capabilities of the Supermicro SuperServer 620C-TN12R, there are 6x PCIe slots which can be accessed from the rear of the system. Slot 1, 2, 4, and 5 are PCIe 4.0 x8 expansion slots. Slot 3 is a PCIe x16 expansion slot. Slots 3 and 5 can be merged together to create an optional x16 expansion slot. Supermicro indicates up to 6x PCIe cards can be installed or up 2x double-width GPUs and only two PCIe cards.
Supermicro provides a suite of software management options which include the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0, SCC, Redfish API, SSM, Intel Node Manager, SPM, KVM with dedicated LAN, SUM, NMI, Watch Dog, and SuperDoctor 5 (SD5). Remote access for this server is available through Supermicro’s Out of Band (OOB) Software License key.
The 2U Supermicro CloudDC SuperServer 620C-TN12R is a high-density dual-socket system compatible with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Each socket supports 8x DIMM slots for a total of 16x DIMM slots on the system board and a potential memory capacity of up to 6TB. The front of the chassis holds 12x 3.5-inch hybrid drive bays with an option for two more drives in back. This system is designed for Web Server, Firewall Applications, CDN, Edge Nodes, and Cloud Computing tasks.
