The 4U Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F610P2-RTN holds 8x independent dual-socket server nodes compatible with 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Each node supports 16 DIMM slots, and 6x 2.5-inch drive bays on the front of the system that can be populated with NVMe, SATA, or SAS drives. Some key applications include Hyperscale / Hyperconverged workloads along with data center enterprise applications.
Each independent server node on the Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F610P2-RTN server supports 2x of Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors. there is a total of 16x DIMM slots per node along with 6x 2.5-inch drive bays for storage needs. NVMe, SAS, and SATA drives are all supported on this system. 2TB of DRAM memory can be installed or 4TB of Persistent Memory (PMem). There are 3x fans on each node, while power is handled at the chassis level with 4x redundant 2200W Titanium level PSUs.
3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors can be installed in each server node. The maximum cores supported on the Supermicro SuperServer F610P2-RTN are 32C/64T with up to 48MB of cache memory. Due to thermal constraints on the nodes, the processors are limited to a thermal threshold of 165W. The system chassis holds 4x power supply units rated at 80 plus Titanium in a redundant configuration.
Storage solutions on each node include 6x 2.5-inch drive bays which can be populated with NVMe, SAS, or SAT drives. The drive bays can be found on the front of the server nodes and are hot-swappable for quick and easy replacement. If SAS drives will require a discrete HD RAID controller that occupies the same slot as an optional M.2 add on card (AOC).
Each node supports 8x DIMM slots per CPU socket for a total of 16x DIMM slots. Both Dynamic Random-Access Memory (DRAM) registered (RDIMM) or load reduced (LRDIMM) memory modules, and Persistent Memory (PMem) are compatible on this system. The DRAM memory option has a maximum capacity of 2TB by using 16x 128GB modules while the PMem option has a maximum capacity of up to 5TB using 8x 512GB modules plus a compliment or RDIMM or LRDIMM memory modules in the other 8x slots.
To extend the capabilities of the Supermicro FatTwin F610P2-RTN, there are two expansion slots. The first one is a PCIe 4.0 x8 (low-profile) slot that supports 2x M.2 SSDs via an AOC. The same slot for the M.2 AOC supports the optional SAS RAID controller. There is also an internal M.2 slot which can be used for an M.2 drive where the system OS can be installed. Network connectivity is from an advanced I/O module (AIOM) with a dedicated connection on the motherboard that supports a number of different connection speeds and port connections. The AIOM card is OCP 3.0 compatible.
Software such as SuperDoctor 5, Intel Node Manager, Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0 (IPMI), Watchdog, and others are available to help simplify management of the Supermicro F610P2-RTN. SuperDoctor 5 is a great tool for remote management as it sends alerts about system health directly to a specified email address.
The Supermicro SuperServer FatTwin F610P2-RTN is a 4U server housing 8x independent server nodes, perfect for use as Virtualization Servers, Scale-Out Storage systems, or for Data Center Enterprise Applications and other tasks. The individual nodes support dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, up to 5TB of memory in 16x DIMM slots, and 6x 2.5-inch drive bays per node.
