The Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RC0B is a 4U chassis system that holds 4x server nodes. Each node supports two 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores. The processors in each node power 12 DIMM slots and a total of 8x 3.5-inch drive bays. It is possible to configure the system with 8x 3.5-inch SATA drives or 6x 3.5-inch SATA3 drives and 2x NVMe U.2 drives.
Each independent server node has 2x sockets that can be outfitted with 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. There are 6x DIMM slots per socket for a total of 12 DIMM slots and up to 3TB of memory. The supported memory modules include DDR4 Registered and Load Reduced 3DS DIMM modules. Each node offers 8x 3.5-inch drive bays with six in the front and two in the rear. This system is designed for high-performance computing applications and for use as either an enterprise appliance or a hyperscale fixture in the data center.
Either 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors can be installed in the dual sockets hosted in each node. Processors up to 28 cores are compatible with this system but because of thermal constraints present on this system, only 70-165W processors are supported. With optional thermal solutions it is possible to install processors with a higher Thermal Design Point (TDP).
A total of 8x 3.5-inch drive bays are on each node of the Supermicro SuperServer F629P3-RC0B. Six of these drive bays are on the front of the node while the other two are on the back. Two options to configure your storage solutions include all drive bays fitted with SATA3 drives or the front 6x bays outfitted with SAS3 or SATA3 drives while the rear drive bays support NVMe U.2 drives.
There are 12 DIMM slots per node for a total of 48 active DIMM slots with all 4x server nodes. Server nodes are compatible with DDR4 Registered and Load Reduced 3DS DIMMs. Supported speeds include 2933 MHz, 2666 MHz, 2400 MHz, and 2133 MHz. When using 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) can be installed for greater speed and resiliency.
To expand the capabilities of your system, there are 2x expansion slots on the Supermicro F629P3-RC0B X11 motherboard. A single PCIe 3.0 x16 (low-profile) slot and a single PCIe 3.0 x16 (SIOM) slot can be found on the rear of the system and are dedicated for support of dual M.2 drives that can be used to booth the system and for network communications, respectively. The dedicated LAN IPMI port allows for greater system management capabilities.
To manage the system, the provided software includes Intel Node Manager, Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI), SuperDoctor 5 (SD5), and Watch Dog. SuperDoctor 5 provides in-depth system information such as fan speed and system temperatures. Administrators can configure the applications to receive email notifications and remote access.
The Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629PR-RC0B supports 4x independent server nodes in a 4U chassis. Each node has a dual socket configuration compatible with 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. There are a total of 12x DIMM slots and 8x 3.5-inch drive bays per node for up to 3TB of memory per node and up to 12TB of memory for the entire chassis with all nodes at capacity.
