The Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RC1B is a 4U system holding 4x server nodes. Each node is a dual socket configuration compatible with 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. There are 8x 3.5-inch drive bays per node which can be populated with either of two configurations. Eight SATA3 drives or six SATA3 drives and two NVMe U.2 drives in the rear of the node.
With 4x independent server nodes, the Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RC1B is ideal for data center applications and hyperscale networks. Each server node is powered by dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and supports 8x 3.5-inch drive bays. There are two basic configurations to choose from, either 8x SATA3 drive bays or 6x SATA3 drives with two NVMe U.2s. 12 DIMM slots are supported on each node offering up to 3TB of memory at full capacity.
The Supermicro F629P3-RC1B is powered by dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores per socket. Due to thermal constraints, the CPU options are limited to 70-165W. Although, it is possible to support CPUs with a higher Thermal Design Point (TDP) through optional thermal solutions. A redundant 1+1 power supply configuration is present on this system.
Eight drive bays can be found on each of the nodes, with 6x in the front storage bays and 2x more in a rear-mounted drive cage. These drive bays can be populated in two configurations. The first option is to have all eight drive bays be populated with 3.5-inch SATA3 drive bays. The second option allows for two NVMe U.2 drives to be installed in the rear drive bays while the front six are populated with SATA3 drives.
12x DIMM slots on each node support up to 3TB of memory with all 12x memory slots outfitted with 256GB memory modules. The supported memory modules on the FatTwin F629P3-RC1B include 3DS DDR4 Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) and Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM). Depending on your choice of CPU and memory modules, memory speeds of 2933 MHz, 2666 MHz, 2400 MHz, and 2133 MHz are supported. Data centric Optane memory modules are also available but only when 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are installed.
Extending the capabilities of the Supermicro Superserver F629P3-RC1B can be achieved through the expansion slots found on the back of each node. There is a single PCIe 3.0 x16 (low-profile) slot and a PCIe 3.0 x16 (Server Input/Output Module). A dedicated integrated platform management interface (IPMI) LAN port on the rear of the system allows for system management options.
Supermicro provides various management software such Intel Node Manager, Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0, SuperDoctor 5, and Watch Dog. SuperDoctor 5 monitors vital information such as system temperature, power consumption, and inventory. This information can also be accessed remotely through email alerts.
The 4U chassis Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RC1B is designed for compute intensive workloads. Four separate dual socket server nodes can each be configured to support a unique workload Each of the nodes support 8x drive bays total and 12 DIMM slots for up to 3TB of memory per node and 12TB with all nodes loaded to capacity. The system is compatible with Intel’s 1st or 2nd generation Xeon Scalable processors.
