The Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RTB holds 4x independent server. Each node is a dual socket configuration compatible with 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. There are 6x DIMMs per CPU socket for a total of 12x DIMM slots on each node for up to 3TB of memory. 6x 3.5-inch SATA3/SAS3 drive bays are found on the front of each server node plus a drive cage supporting 2x 3.5-inch drive bays in back.
Each node on the Supermicro F629P3-RTB can be populated with 2x 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. 6x DIMMs are supported per socket for 12x per node total. The supported storage configuration on this system is 8x drive bays on a node. Six of those drive bays are on the front of the node while the other two can be accessed from the rear. All the drive bays are 3.5-inch bays that support SATA3/SAS3 drives but the two rear bays can also be configured with NVMe U.2 storage devices.
Powered by dual 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 28 cores and 56 threads are supported by the system architecture. Thermal constraints of the Supermicro FatTwin F629P3-RTB only allow for processors that require up to 165W. However, it is possible to support processors with a higher Thermal Design Point (TDP) with extended thermal solutions.
Six drive bays can be found on the front of the server nodes and two in the rear. The front 3.5-inch drive bays support SATA3 or SAS3 drives. The rear two 3.5-inch drive bays have a hybrid backplane and can support SATA3 or SAS3 drives. SAS3 drives will require an optional Broadcom SAS3 controller. A dedicated PCIe 3.0 x4 slot on the system board can be outfitted with a single SATA3 or NVMe M.2 drive for support of the OS or a hypervisor.
12x DIMM slots are found on each server node, with 6x slots per socket. They support DDR4 Registered and Load Reduced DIMMs. The maximum supported memory capacity is 3TB with memory speed of 2933 MHz. Other configurations allow for memory modules with speeds of 2933 MHz, 2666 MHz, 2400 MHz, and 2133 MHz. Data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM), like Intel Optane, are also supported.
The functionality of this system can be extended through the PCIe expansion slots. The rear of the system holds a single PCIe 3.0 x16 (low-profile) slot and a single PCIe 3.0 x16 (SIOM) slot. There are 2x USB 3.0 slots on the rear of the system as well along with a VGA port. An RJ45 Gb LAN port provides access to the baseboard management controller.
Managing the Supermicro SuperServer F629P3-RTB is done through various software applications such as the Intel Node Manager, Intelligent Platform Management Interface 2.0 (IPMI), SuperDoctor 5 (SD5), and Watch Dog. The dedicated RJ45 port is another tool for server management providing remote access to the chassis. SuperDoctor 5 software allows for remote access through a standard browser and can be configured to send email notifications regarding system temperature, fan speed, and more.
The Supermicro FatTwin SuperServer F629P3-RTB houses 4x individual server nodes that are compatible with 2x 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The sockets support 6x DIMM slots each for up to 3TB of memory in a 4U chassis. There are 8x 3.5-inch drive bays as well, six on the front and two on the rear of each of the 4x server nodes.
