The Supermicro SuperServer FatTwin SYS-F619P2-RT server is designed to hold up to eight two-socket server nodes per chassis. Each node will support one or two of intel’s Xeon Scalable processors, up to 12 DIMM slots, and up to six storage devices per node. With all server nodes maxed out, that’s 16 CPUs and up to 12TB of memory in a 4U chassis.
The Supermicro SupserServer FatTwin SYS-F619P2-RT server can support up to eight hot-swappable dual-socket server nodes. The system features chassis F418BC2-R2K20BP, which supports four different server node options, each of which supports six drive bays total but different drive types. Server nodes can be mixed and matched, and include the Supermicro F619P2-RT, F619P2-RTN, F619P2-RC0, and F619P2-RC1 server blades. Aside from storage, the systems feature very similar components. A fully configured chassis with eight server nodes can support 16 processors with up to 28 cores each for 448 total cores of processing power for data management and analytical reporting. if there’s a need, you can choose to install up to 1.5TB of memory per node. With each compute node supporting six 2.5-inch drive bays, that’s 48 total storage devices giving you the flexibility to support multiple workloads in the same chassis. Cooling is also provided by the server nodes with each node supporting three high-performance fan units. Supermicro also offers a host of software options to manage this system, including SuperDoctor 5.0.
Each of the server nodes mentioned above, including the FatTwin SYS-F619P2-RT server node featured here, can support one or two Intel Xeon Scalable Processors from the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum families. However, there is a thermal design point that will limit your processor choices to those within the 70W – 165W range. Each processor supports six memory channels for 12 total memory channels in a two-processor configuration. Four 2200W redundant power supplies are supported by the F418BC2-R2K20BP chassis and provide powers to all the server nodes. Server nodes can be powered on and off independently using the control panels embedded in the server ears on each side of the chassis.
Each of the eight compute nodes supports 12 DIMM slots total with each of the two processors assigned six memory module slots. You can install either Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs) or Registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) and either option will support a maximum of 1.5TB. DDR4 memory, when paired with an appropriate processor provides a clock in speeds ranging from 2133 MHz to 2666 MHz.
The Supermicro SYS-F619P2-RT server supports only 2.5-inch drives with 6 storage bays per node, and 48 total drive bays with all eight nodes. Only SATA3 HDDs and SSDs are supported on the FatTwin F619P2-RT server node with RAID level 0, 1, 5, 10. Other server nodes are compatible with the F418BC2-R2K20BP chassis and offer other storage support including SAS3 HDDs and SSDs plus nodes that support NVMe U.2 drives for performance and resiliency.
To speed up boot times, M.2 storage devices are supported but can also be used for extra super-fast access storage.
Each FatTwin F619P2-RT node features two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots. One is a low-profile slot while the other is a SIOM slot. SIOM stands for Super I/O Module, which is optimized to support Supermicro products. The SIOM slot is compatible with speeds ranging from 1 GbE all the way up to 100 GbE some of which feature a built-in management interface.
The SuperServer SYS-F619P2-RT server node comes with several integrated and downloadable system management tools, like Intel’s Node Manager. Other management software options include the SuperDoctor 5, IPMI 2.0, and Watch Dog. SuperDoctor 5 helps Administrators determine system health and availability in Data Center environments, in real time and can provide alerts. Administrators can also use a Keyboard/Video/Mouse (KVM) feature to help manage single or multiple server blades.
The Supermicro F418BC2-R2K20BP chassis, along with the Supermicro SuperServer FatTwin F619P2-RT server blade is an easily customizable platform, perfect for high-performance workload environments. This is a high-density system ideal for data center environments and cloud applications. Supermicro’s integrated management tools make managing this server simple and intuitive.
