Depending on the chosen processor for Supermicro GPU SuperServer 220GP-TNR, each 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors is able to provide 8 to 40 Physical Cores and 16 to 80 Virtual Threads. With both sockets populated with top-of-the-line processors, a total of 80x Physical Cores and 160x Virtual Threads are supported on this system. The system architecture accommodates CPUs with a Thermal Design Power rating of up to 270W.
On the front of the Supermicro 220GP-TNR GPU server there are a total of 10x hot-swap hybrid 2.5-inch drive bays. These drive bays are compatible with NVMe, SATA, and SAS drives. 2x of the drive bays are dedicated NVMe drive bays. 2x M.2 drives are supported on the system board via adapter.
Each of the CPU sockets support 8x DIMM slots for a total of 16x active DIMM slots on the system board. Both Registered and Load Reduced DIMMs are compatible on the Supermicro SuperServer 220GP-TNR. With all DIMM slots are populated, the maximum memory capacity is 4TB using 256GB DRAM modules. It is also possible to populate 8x of the DIMM slots with 512GB PMem (Intel Optane persistent memory 200 series) modules for a capacity of 6TB. Memory speeds of 3200MHz, 2933Mhz, and 2666MHz are compatible with this system.
The system board of the Supermicro 220GP-TNR houses 6x PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 expansion slots and 2x Gen 4.0 full-height x8 slots. The x16 slots can house up to 6x full-height, full-length double-wide, passively cooled GPUs, up to 350W each. The compatible GPUs on this system include the NVIDIA A100, A40 and RTX A6000 featuring Ampere architecture. The GPUs are connected via PCIe. Network connectivity is supported via the advanced I/O module (AIOM) and through AOCs (add on cards) installed in the two x8 expansion slots in back.
System management is achieved through a variety of Supermicro’s management software which includes the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0, KVM with dedicated LAN. Supermicro’s proprietary management software suites SuperDoctor 5, and Watch Dog, offer additional options including an Out-of-Band Management Package.
