Offering a 4U tower form factor, the Supermicro GPU SuperServer 740GP-TNRT tower is designed to support VDI workstation deployments for rendering, scientific virtualization, AI and deep learning, plus high-performance computing applications with support for up to 4x GPUs. It features dual 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and up to 6TB of memory using a combination of Intel Persistent Memory paired with DRAM modules.
Supporting Windows Server 2022 and 2019, plus Linux REHL, the Supermicro GPU SuperServer 740GP-TNRT tower also supports Citrix Hypervisor 8.2. This platform is meant for use in a small to medium sized office without a server room or can be rack mounted for support of several workstation instances. With support for up to 4x high-performance GPUs it can easily provide compute performance for AI and deep learning plus visualization and simulation for applications that rely heavily on rendering visual information. Power is provided by dual redundant 2200W Titanium level PSUs, and keeping it all cool, a bank of 4x high-performance fans behind the drive backplane and another two fans located on the back panel.
Occupying dual Socket P+ (LGA-4189) are 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual threads, each! Each processor also supports a cache of up to 60MB, depending on your choice of processor, offering better data retrieval and in return, speed to address complex applications. PCIe 4.0 is another new feature and provides twice the throughput compared to PCIe 3.0. 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors also support 8x memory channels, which is two more than 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors enabling support for more memory at faster speeds. 2x more fans can be installed over the PCIe slots on the exterior of the chassis to provide additional cooling for passively cooled GPUs like Nvidia Tesla or some Ampere based GPUs.
Behind the perforated, lockable panel on the front of the Supermicro SuperServer 740GP-TNRT tower, there are 8x 3.5-inch hot-swap drive bays. 4x of the bays support NVMe storage by default with the other 4x supporting SAS or SATA drive formats. However, SAS drives will require the addition of a 12Gb SAS3 HBA add-on-card (AOC). There are also 3x 5.25-inch media bays on the top of the system for support of optional optical drives, backup tape drives, and or card readers. 2x slots on the system board can be used to support either NVMe or SATA3 drive formats and can only be used to boot the system with either a single or redundant configuration.
With only 16x memory module slots total, the Supermicro GPU SuperServer 740GP-TNRT tower can still deliver up to 6TB of memory using a combination of data centric persistent memory modules (DCPMM) also referred to as Intel Optane DC persistent memory (PMem) paired with either load reduced (LRDIMM) or registered (RDIMM) memory modules. 3DS varieties of both RDIMMs and LRDIMMs are also supported providing greater memory capacity. Using only RDIMM memory modules, the system will support up to 4TB of memory operating at speeds of 3200, 2933, or 2666MHz depending on the memory module and CPU memory speeds.
This chassis supports all PCIe 4.0, which is twice as fast as PCIe 3.0. There is a single x8 slot for use with more PCIe-based storage, plus four x6 double-width slots for PCIe-based GPUs, and 2x more PCIe x16 single-width slots that can be used for a storage or network controller. GPUs supported on the Supermicro 740GP-TNRT tower include the NVIDIA A100, NVIDIA A40, and NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPUs, all of which support NVIDIA’s latest Ampere technology. The first two, the A40 and A100 are perfect for data center deployments and offer virtualization abilities as well as shear performance for AI, and AI training and inference applications. The RTX A6000, with a wealth of ray tracing cores, delivers powerful performance for simulation and visualization. On the back of the system are 2x 10GbE ports and a dedicated integrated platform management interface (IPMI) port.
Supermicro Server Manager (SSM) which provides an all-around management solution to monitor Supermicro servers from a single console in the datacenter. It provides management through the IPMI, Redfish interface or using SuperDoctor5 (SD5) which is an OS agent installed in each system. SD5 monitors the health and availability of target nodes in real-time and can be configured wot send alerts to administrators. Other utilities like the Supermicro Update Manager (SUM) can be configured to provide regular updates to the BIOS and Baseboard management controller (BCM) and IPMI firmware. Additional utilities are provided to help you get the most out of the server.
Featuring a tower chassis that can be rack mounted for use in a server room, the Supermicro GPU SuperServer 740GP-TNRT tower offers dual socket performance from Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon Scalable processors. 8x hybrid drive bays up front offer support for NVMe, SAS and SATA drives formats, plus 2x M.2 drive slots for support of the OS. Up to 4x full-width high-performance GPUs featuring Nvidia’s next generation Ampere architecture provide fast compute for AI and training and inference applications to rapid visualization and support for VDI workstations. Up to 6TB of memory can be installed along with a list of options to customize this system to your unique business needs.
