The Supermicro Hyper SuperServer 220HE-FTNRD-NEBS is a unique 2U, short-depth server with the I/O on the front panel and the 6x drive bays on the rear of the chassis. The dual socket system is compatible with 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, and supports up to 12TB memory and up to 4x GPU accelerators.
As an NEBS Level 3 Certified server, the Supermicro Hyper SuperServer 220HE-FTNRD-NEBS offers third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs to accommodate a variety of high-performance applications. This system is designed for cloud computing, big data analytics, AI inference and machine learning, and more. With a total of 32x memory module slots divided evenly between both CPUs, the server also features 6x 2.5” NVMe/SAS/SATA drives. Although the server offers a total of 8x PCIe slots, only 4x can be outfitted with GPU accelerators.
Featuring a dual socket configuration, the Hyper SuperServer 220HE-FTNRD-NEBS can be populated by Intel Xeon Scalable processors from the 3rd generation family. Each CPU can deliver up to 40 physical cores and 80 virtual threads, for a combined total of 80 cores and 160 threads. The CPUs support a thermal design point (TDP) of up to 270W, however certain CPUs with a high TDP may only be supported under certain conditions. Each CPU also supports 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes for enhanced I/O and NVMe drive support.
8x memory channels per Intel Xeon CPU enables memory configurations with 2x memory modules per channel, for a total of 16x memory module slots per CPU. Overall, the system can support up to 32x DIMMs when all slots are populated and both processors are installed. When fully configured, the SuperServer 220HE-FTNRD-NEBS can hold up to 8TB of DDR4 memory and up to 12TB when regular DDR4 memory and Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 series modules are installed together. LRDIMMs, 3DS LRDIMMs, RDIMMs, and 3DS RDIMMs are compatible with the system board offering memory speeds of 3200, 2933, or 2666MHz, depending on the type and number of DIMMs installed. Memory speed is also dependent on the installed CPU with Platinum and Gold processors supporting the top memory speed.
6x 2.5” hybrid hot-swap drive bays on the rear of the chassis are compatible with SATA/NVMe drives, with the front panel featuring the platform’s I/O ports. The drive bays have a tool-less design intended to simplify field serviceability and lower maintenance time. The system’s board also supports 2x optional M.2 NVMe or SATA3 drives that can be used to boot the operating system instead of using one of the limited SFF drives on the rear of the chassis.
The 220HE-FTNRD-NEBS includes 3x riser cards to support add-on cards. The 8x PCIe 4.0 slots can be found on the front panel with the other I/O functions, but only 4x support GPUs or accelerators. The system can be outfitted with 3x PCIe 4.0 x16 DW FHFL and 2x PCIe 4.0 x8 FHHL, or with 6x PCIe 4.0 x8 FHFL and 2x PCIe 4.0 x8 FHHL. The system also has flexible networking options with two advanced I/O modules (AIOM) networking slots both of which are OCP NIC 3.0 compatible.
The Supermicro software is included with the server and can be used to manage system remotely and at chassis. The system is compatible with Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0 and Redfish and features KVM with dedicated LAN, SSM, SPM, and SUM. SuperDoctor 5, and Watchdog are proprietary software applications and among the choices provided. Access to the system is made possible through the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), which can be used locally or remotely.
The Supermicro Hyper SuperServer 220HE-FTNRD-NEBS can pack one or two 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and much more into its 2U short-depth chassis. It’s designed to handle heavy workloads like big data analytics, AI inference and machine learning, and network function virtualization and can be used for edge and 5G Core applications. With up to 32x DIMM slots and Intel Optane Persistent Memory 200 series modules, the system can deliver up to 12TB of memory. On the back of the system there are 6x SFF drive bays with SATA and NVMe compatibility, while the front of the platform houses the system’s I/O.
