The Supermicro Hyper SuperServer is a 2U rackmount server compatible with up to 2x 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. With support for up to 12TB of memory and 12x 3.5-inch hot-swap NVMe/SAS/SATA drive bays, this system is ideal for Virtualization, Software-defined Storage, AI Inference and a number of other high performance computing applications.
Also suitable for Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, and Enterprise Server applications, the Supermicro Hyper SuperServer 620H-TN12R supports dual 3rd Generation Intel Xeon processors. The system board houses a total of 32x DIMM slots evenly divided between the CPU sockets. Fully configured, this system supports a maximum memory capacity of up to 12TB using PMem series 200 memory modules. 12x hot-swappable 3.5-inch drive bays are accessible on the front of the server. 8x PCIe 4.0 slots provide additional expansion including GPU Accelerator support.
Powered by 1x or 2x 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the supported processors on this system have a Thermal Design Point (TDP) of 270W. The TDP includes all SKUs in the 3rd generation lineup, which enables 8x to 40x physical cores and 16x to 80x virtual threads per CPU. 4x PCIe Gen4 expansion slots are supported by each CPU socket for a total of 8x on the system board with both processors installed.
12x 3.5-inch hot-swappable NVMe/SATA/SAS drive bays are available on the front of the server. In addition to these drive bays there are 2x M.2 NVMe or SATA3 slots available on the system board. They are ideal for fast access storage or OS installation. Use of NVMe drive formats requires a virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) key and provides RAID configurations of 0, 1, 5, and 10. Optional RAID and support of SAS drive formats requires a discrete storage add-on-card.
With both CPUs in charge of 16x memory module slots, there are 32x DIMM slots available on the system board of the Supermicro Hyper 620H-TN12R. The supported memory modules on this system include 3200MHz ECC DDR4 Registered DIMMs (RDIMM) or Load Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMM). Intel Optane Persistent Memory (PMem) series 200 modules can also be installed on this system. One of the maximum memory capacity options on this system is 12TB using 16x 512GB PMem modules and 16x 256GB RDIMM or LRDIMM modules. The other option is 8TB using 32x 256GB 3DS RDIMM or LRDIMM modules.
System expansion is achieved through 8x PCIe 4.0 expansion slots with options for link width. In order to have all 8x slots active, both CPU sockets need to be populated. 2x Advanced Input/Output Modules (AIOM), both OCP 3.0 compatible provide a direct networking connection and doesn’t take away from the standard PCIe slots. These AIOM slots can be outfitted with many different options, including 2x 25GbE SFP28 with Broadcom BCM57414 or 2x 100GbE QSFP28 with Broadcom BCM57508. There is support for double-width GPUs and Accelerator cards on this system but may require additional hardware.
A suite of management software is provided by Supermicro for its range of servers. A dedicated mLAN port on the back of the Supermicro 620H-TN12R server to access the integrated baseboard management controller (BMC), which is the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0 and Redfish compatible. Management software includes the Intel Node Manager, NMI, SSM, SPM, and SUM. SuperDoctor 5 and WatchDog are propriety software suits that provide tools for remote or at-chassis management of the system.
