At only 6U, the Supermicro MicroBlade Enclosure 628E-820 can house up to 28x hot-swap server blades. Each of the server blades supports Intel E3 and E5 CPUs. Server blade enclosures provide high density for Data center, cloud applications, hyper-converged infrastructures, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
The Supermicro MicroBlade Enclosure 628E-820 supports 2x switches, each with 56 ports, and 2x Chassis Management Modules (CMM). The enclosure provides for the power, cooling, networking and management while the server nodes provide the compute. 8x hot-swap high-efficiency 2000W DC power supply units offering N+1 or N+N redundancy provide power for the blade enclosure. Blade enclosures provide better power management and efficiency resulting in a faster ROI and more power efficiency over the life of the system for lower energy costs in general. With 7x enclosures installed in a standard 42U rack, each outfitted with 28 server nodes will provide 196 server nodes. Dual node server blades are also supported offering even higher density.

Compute is provided by the individual server nodes which populate the enclosure. Each of the supported Supermicro MicroBlade servers supports 1x or 2x CPUs. Intel Xeon E3, Intel Xeon E5, and Intel Xeon D-series processors are supported depending on your business needs. The 7U enclosure can be outfitted with up to 28 individual server nodes.
Memory is provided at the MicroBlade server node level and varies depending on the blade server. MicroBlades supported on this platform can support 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB depending on the server node.
Each of the supported server blades in the Supermicro MicroBlade Enclosure 628E-820 supports 1x to 4x 2.5-inch SSD or HDD drives or just SATA DOM (Disk on Module).
The blades feature onboard network interface controllers (NICs) or NICs that are embedded in the CPU architecture. A midplane serves as the middleman to the Chassis switches and SuperBlade Servers. Several different switches are available depending on your networking needs with Gb Ethernet switches or pass-through switches.
2x Chassis Management Modules (CMM) can be installed to provide management for the whole system with redundancy. If 2x CMMs are installed one is assigned to be the master automatically. The CMMs interact with of the server blades and used in conjunction with the Web interface or IPMI View management software enables Administrators to control the blades, power units, cooling fans, and networking switches. Basic management features include Remote KVM, remote storage, Serial-over-LAN (SOL), blade monitoring and control, switch, PWS, monitor, and thermal monitoring and control. Access to manage the system is provided by a dedicated IPMI LAN per CMM.
Featuring up to 28 MicroBlade servers in a 6U chassis, the Supermicro MicroBlade Enclosure 628E-820 is ideal for the datacenter or cloud applications. With support for multimode server blades, this system can support up to 56 separate server nodes for high-density compute power.
