The Supermicro MicroCloud Enclosure 5039MP-H8TNR is a compact unit at only 3U, yet it still hosts 8x single socket server nodes. Each node has a single socket, which can be outfitted with either a first- or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor. 16x storage bays on the front of the system support either SATA3 or NVMe drives, 2x of which are allocated to each of the individual server nodes.
With 8x independent server nodes housed in its 3U chassis, the Supermicro MicroCloud Enclosure 5039MP-H8TNR offers high density for cloud and virtualization, web hosting, social networking and Big Data analytics. Each of the 8x server nodes also supports up to 1TB of memory, 2x Gb Ethernet ports, and optional M.2 drives. Cooling is provided by a bank of 4x fans, each of which provides cooling for 2x server nodes.
Each of the 8x supported server nodes supported on this 3U system has a single first- or second-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor with a thermal design point (TDP) threshold of 165W. This still enables processors with up to 28 physical cores and 56 virtual threads. Each processor supports 6x memory channels which can be outfitted with up to 1TB or memory using either registered (RDIMM) or load-reduced (LRDIMM) 3DS memory modules in all 4 DIMM slots. Data centric persistent memory modules are also supported but only when 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are installed. 16x vertical drive bays in front can be outfitted with 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA3 or NVMe drive formats using optional kits. 2x SATA/PCIe 3.0 x8 slots on the system board can be outfitted with M.2 drives to support the OS in failsafe mode.
The Supermicro 5039MP-H8TNR is powered by dual redundant PSUs to either side of the chassis with the eight server nodes squeezed in between. PSU wattages include 1200W options all the way up to 2200W Titanium level PSUs. 4x 8cm hot swap cooling fans are provided in each server node and support fan speed control on a per node basis.
Dual 1+1 dedicated integrated platform management interface (IPMI) 2.0 LAN ports on the back of the enclosure provide access to the installed server nodes and are compatible with Intel’s node manager. plus a few proprietary management options provided by Supermicro including, SuperDoctor 5 (SD5) and Watchdog.
2x RJ45 Gb Ethernet LAN ports on the back of each of the server nodes provides network access to each of the 8x attached server nodes. There is also a 1+1 dedicated IPMI management port on the back of the MicroCloud enclosure for management of the entire 8-node system.
With 8x independent server nodes in a 3U chassis the Supermicro MicroCloud Enclosure 5039MP-H8TNR offers high-density for applications in Big Data analytics, cloud and virtualized environments, plus web hosting and social media networking. Each server node hosts a single 1st or 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor, up to 1TB of memory, and is allocated 2x of the 16x up front storage bays.
