The Supermicro MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H86RF is an 8-node MicroCloud server system in a 3U chassis. A single Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2 Series CPU is supported on each of the node motherboards. Additionally, the LFF storage bays on the front of the platform are compatible with both SAS and SATA drives when an add-on card is installed.
Th Supermicro MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H86RF contains 8x separate server nodes, each outfitted with a single CPU. Each node controls two hard drives on the front panel for a total of 16x 3.5" storage bays. Each node also shares a fan with the one beside it, for a total of 4x fans. Individual status LEDs are located on the back of each node including a power button and LED, UIO button and LED, and failure LED.
A total of 8x single processor server nodes are mounted on the MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H86RF. The motherboards are based on the Intel C204 PCH chipset, each hosting a single Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2 Series processor in an LGA 1155 socket. Each CPU supports up to 4 cores and 8 threads, a TDP of up to 69W, and a maximum turbo frequency of 3.80GHz. On the back of the chassis there is a redundant 1620W high-efficiency power supply, which can be replaced without shutting down the system in case of a PSU failure. The 3U server features four 8-cm fans located on the backplane. Each fan cools 2x server nodes, each of which has their own individual air shroud to channel the airflow from the fans to the components that generate the most heat.
Four DIMM slots on each node support up to 32GB of ECC DDR3- 1333/1600 Unbuffered DIMMs (UDIMM). This equates to a maximum of 256GB for the system. Memory modules of the same size and speed are highly suggested. While the Supermicro SuperServer 5037MC-H86RF does supports mixed DIMM speeds all DIMMs will run at the speed of the slowest DIMM.
16x LFF hot-swappable hard drives can be found on the front panel with 2x storage bays assigned to each server node. The SuperServer 5037MC-H86RF system houses both SAS and SATA drives but requires an HBA/RAID add-on card for both SAS and SATA drive formats. The server requires one add-on card per node in order to support the SAS/SATA configurations. If the add-on card is installed, all power and data connections to the nodes will be made through the cables included on the add-on card.
Each node on the Supermicro 5037MC-H86RF system supports 1x PCIe 3.0 x8 low-profile PCIe slot, typically used for an HBA/RAID card, for a total of 8x PCIe slots on the entire system. Each node also includes its own IPMI LAN port on the rear for local or remote management.
The integrated platform management interface (IPMI) provides access to the baseboard management controller (BMC) in each server node. SuperDoctor 3 (SD 3) is a proprietary management software offered by Supermicro. Using SD 3, server administrators can remotely check a server's hardware status, get a warning when a problem arises, and restart a non-responsive system thanks to IPMI. The SuperDoctor 3 software is also used by the MicroCloud 5037MC-H86RF system, which shows vital system data including CPU temperature, system voltages, and fan status.
The Supermicro MicroCloud SuperServer 5037MC-H86RF is a 3U server built with 8x independent server nodes. Each node controls 2x drive bays for a total of 16x 3.5” bays on the front panel of the chassis. Each node also supports a single Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2 Series processor, and 4x DIMM slots each supporting up to 32GB of memory.
